My family inherited some valuable paintings and sketches done by Sir James Gunn. I know that auction houses are a popular venue to sell such works but the comission is way too high. Can anyone suggest a cheaper alternative like how to market it myself? Usually his paintings sell for 40,0000.00 USD and higher.. Thinking of creating a website for his fan clubs to check out.

There are only two serious auction houses for this kind of material.

Sotheby's and Christies

They can make an estimate of how much the pieces are worth. They can attract the kind of costumer that will actually buy them.
They will make it easy for you, red tape wise.

try them.

I think the website would be the way to go. The only other option is to find a gallery that would show and sell them, but they will have thier hands in the cookie jar on that one as well.
