Wouldn't it be a couch job to troll for whores trying to make a living? Either stiffin the penalties or make sex legal. I'm favor the latter. Man wants woman, woman needs money, deal made, BAM cop steps in!! WTF!! Go after real people Mr. Cop guy!! Stop spankin it while going after hotties on the net!!

Personally, I hate arresting prostitutes. That's because arresting anyone requires a certain degree of physical contact while handcuffing and checking for weapons. The vast majority of prostitutes, at least in my city, have either HIV or full-blown AIDS. The ones that don't still have other communicable diseases like hepatitis. Sure, I use latex gloves to protect myself from blood contact, but the main reason around here for women to prostitute is because they are drug addicts trying to get drugs. And addicts usually have needles, razors, glass pipes with sharp edges, etc. that can still cut me through latex gloves.

To be totally accurate, though, I've never arrested a prostitute for prostitution. I've arrested them for drugs, drug paraphernalia, trespassing, disorderly conduct, etc. You know what else? It's the business owners or passersby that always call it in. A prostitute that goes around indiscriminately spreading diseases is a threat to the public health. Not to mention that prostitutes are an easy target to get robbed, beaten, or killed. Putting them in jail for a few days is best for everyone. It protects and takes care of her a few days, she's not infecting anyone new, and the businesses don't have her running off legitimate customers.

Well to answer your actual question: Yes, I believe police do enjoy arresting people who break the law. Getting bad guys/gals off the street is why they took the job.

As for the rest of your ramblings: The only reason I can see for making prostitution illegal is because it's considered immoral. But it's also a public health problem. Most prostitutes are not "clean." Drug addicted, HIV infected, prostitutes are just... not appealing.
