I believe in my heart we are surrounded by the holy light of Christ...an embrace of warmth and beautiful colors and white light that will be brighter than the sun but does not hurt our eyes...we are walked into the into the gates of the Kingdom of Heaven and greeted by everyone we love including ur animals that await you on the other side of the city walls...beauty will be so great and overwelhming to the senses of your new heavenly body that your joy will be tears....we will be clothethed in white...all dreams will come true...( all the reuccuring dreams of breathing under water and flying were not just by chance, they are visions of the future that awaits you)....every question will be answered in a long yearned for conversation face to face with our Creator...Christ....we will be able to hug Him and touch His beautiful hands and a curious child would....it is in the bible that Christ has a house for you and your loved ones....the things we will see and touch and taste and feel and hear are beyong our earthy imagination.....it is also in the bible that there will never be night as we will no longer need rest, no more hunger and thirst and fatigue, .....Heaven is Light.....we are a part of the light...we exist as part of God...as the most important precious thing to Him that He loves and will loves forever....Christ promises all of this to us if we just believe that He came to save us from our sins...we alone are not pure enough to enter heaven before God but because Jesus died on the cross we are now given a second chance to be washed clean and enter the Gates....I feel this is much better than believing in no God and nothingness and darkness after death

What are "other" beliefs, to you? That is, what is it that you believe?
In Christianity (mainsteam, at least), it depends on whether or not the person (or soul) was "saved" (In Christianity, one is known as a "sinner" until their sin has been paid for, by the shedding of the Blood of God's Son, Jesus Christ). If a person is "saved", the Bible says that they will spend eternity in Heaven. If the person is not saved, in Christian belief, they will spend eternity in "Hell" - where there will be "weeping and gnashing of teeth" (can't remember the verse).
I think that Jehovah's Witnesses have a slightly different belief for both sides. JW's believe that an "unsaved" person goes into the ground (buried), and nothing happens after that (I think). However, in their belief (I think), there is something about reigning here on Earth, etc....I couldn't explain it very well, 'cause I read briefly about it quite a while back.
I used to know what happened in the Latter Day Saints' belief, but I can only remember something about ruling over a planet, or something like that.
And, of course, in some Eastern Religions, there is the belief that you come back in a different life, so to speak, and in a different part of the social ladder, according to how "good" or "bad" you were in a previous life...or something like that.
It's your choice! (Just don't pick the wrong one :\ )

This is how I explained it in my book about my fathers cancer death called " By The Grace of God" which can be found at amazon.com
By daughter norene loves peanuts and while looking at the pile of shells she left behind it reminded me of our own lives journey.
we , as people are like the peanuts shell. our soul is the nut in side. when we die our soul { the nut} leaves our body and we can no longer see it , saying that I ate the nut.
The shell is what is left behind and we then take that shell and bury it or do or own rites to it that best suit our memorial for the person who once owned that shell.
Now I have acid reflex ( chronic heart burn) and later on that peanut will come back to me lol I will not see it but I will know it is in fact that peanut by the signs it shows me. Much like the signs shown to us by the souls of our departed loved ones when they come back around us.
Did I confuse you? I hope not

After death of the body, it's either decompose or incinerated. The soul however, moves on to be reincarnated.
And NO, you don't get to choose a body or country or anything. Why would somebody choose to be born deformed, etc.

You go to the World of Spirits according to Swedenborg. Some people laugh at that but Saint Patrick also said that he saw a place that was not heaven or hell. The place was named purgatory by the Catholic Church.
Swedenborg says it is like going to the stomach for sorting out.

Your soul is resting for a while, because being in the physical body is very difficult for any soul, all the limitation is making it tired. Then I think you review your life and deciding what to do next, what kind of life would you like and need to lead next and then you start choosing your next body(parents,country,circumstances...).I¸ve read it takes about 20 years between two life's(it depends of course).

A big fat NOTHING. Your body will rot away in a grave or be burned in a crematorium and the chemical remains will return to the ground. The only after life is in the memories of those who knew you.
