I saw another question asking about biscuits and gravy and it reminded me of a woman that my mom knew from Maine, I think. She and her daughter had never had biscuits and gravy. That is something I make every Sunday for my family. Is it really only a southern delicacy?

Is Mexican food only made in Mexico? Is Chinese food only made by people who are Chinese? What you cook (and eat) depends on your life experiences. If you've never had biscuits and gravy, you probably don't make them. One of my favorite foods is pierogies. When I lived in West Virginia for a short time, I had friends who had never eaten (or even heard of) a pierogi. I made them pierogies for dinner one evening and they were hooked.

Having lived in the South all except two year of my life, I'd have to say that it's definitely a Southern meal. It's fast, hearty, and delicious. I've known of very few when I lived in Ohio that made biscuits and gravy. When I married I made bicuits and gravy for my husband. I don't know why it isn't as prevelant up North, but it sure is great down here in the South!

I heard about biscuits and gravy, but I never had them. I think it is a southern delicacy. I was born and raised in new york and no one I know eats biscuits and gravy.

I'd have to say that biscuits and gravy are southern in nature... along with Grits... they are a staple.

Personally, I hate them and have hated them all my life because of the connotation that they are the favorite food of rednecks... something you can easily believe if you go to any of the restaurants in my home town in Missouri any morning for breakfast.

They might make biscuits and gravy, but it won't taste NEAR as good as southern biscuits and gravy!

I grew up in Ohio and my dad would make it all the time. I always get it when we go out for a morning meal. I can not make gravy very well or i would make it on the weekend. We can get then in restaurants all around here and i live in Indiana now.
