I met him once, you know, at an AIDS fund-raiser in Berkely. I got a picture with him and everything.

The first thing that struck me was how very tall he was. The man was at least 6'4 when he unfurled himself. And those warm, loving eyes that twinkled merrily whenever the subject came round to Michele Pfeiffer. He had Dangerous Minds on Beta, VHS, and DVD.

The subject of Jews did come up, as I knew it must, in the shape of one pregnant word: Seinfeld.

"Seinfeld...." the Pontiff began, and then he seemed to lose himself. "Seinfeld......." he said again, and then collapsed in laughter.

After the reception we had tea and hamantashen. It was a good time.

Melvin -

You are not PC by any stretch of the imagination. But you have a damn good wit. And you write well also. Keep on truckin'.

Oh, and ridersinthesky11 - when Christ referred to the "rock" on which He would build His Church, he was referring to Peter (which means "rock," by the way). What a coincidence that Peter was the first Pope! "MY Church" IS the Catholic Church. Hope this clears things up.

Creed books, priests, nuns, instrumental music, worshipping the pope or any other human, worshipping Mary, baptizing babies, etc... Those are not found in the Bible. Indeed, if the Bible is the perfect law of liberty, then why use a creed book? Why keep adding to or taking away from God's Word? Because they wanted things done their own way, so they adopted their own traditions and sanctions. So many of their practices are anything but Biblical. Todays Christians are to use the New Testament. In order to be a true Christian, one born of water, you must follow the steps to salvation: Steps of Salvation
Hear - Rom 10:17
Believe - Heb 11:6
Repent - Acts 2:38
Confession - Matt 10:32-33
Baptism - Mark 16:16
Live faithfully - Revelation 2:10; Romans 5:1-2

Failure to do so, is not being in the Lord's church. You're not a Christian unless you're in the Lord's church. You're not in the Lord's church unless you've been baptized(and baptism is immersion-not sprinkling or pouring). And also, where in God's Word can you find the Catholic church? There is only one church, Christ's church. And he said to Peter "Upon this rock I will build MY church".. I see nothing of the Catholic church there.

I liked John Paul II, he had a lot of grreat points
and he held up many good Christian virtues right up to the end of respect for life and also forgiveness.

some weaknesses: he could have been better at doctrines of creation and was too weak on the creation captiulating to evolutionists, he was a Mary maximalist and that opens the door for using Mary as a Jesus equal and Jesus substutue in a practical sense for many even if its not official

I shall never forget Pope John Paul II. He still is beloved, admired ,and respected by all Christian denominations for his wisdom. I am not a Catholic, but I sincerely mourned his passing. He is missed universally.
