My boyfriend and I have been together for 8 months and its a very close family that I have become a part of. His sister's wedding is very special becuase it is the first of that generation and their mother passed away a few years ago. I really want to do somehting special for her but I can't think of what. I don't want to do the whole shadow box with the invitation thing, something touching. Any ideas??

enlist your man to help find pictures of his mom. then see if you can put together a special book of their mom, and especially pics of the bride and her mother. you could also find a special pic their mom on her wedding day. then place it in a special cloth cover or something similar and see if can't be sewn to the dress/slip etc...ask for permission from someone first...if not you may be able to attach it another way...then she can carry the pic of her mom with her as she walks down the aisle. that will mean more to her than anything.

How about something very special for their wedding night? I did this for my sister and she loved it!

A basket (buy at a craft store or use one you have)
Line it with linen napkins

Fill it with:

Champagne or wine (or both)

Champagne flutes (or wine goblets) - Cool if you can find them tinted with their wedding colors.

Chocolate covered strawberries

Massage oils (they can be relaxing after the hectic wedding day)

(4) Votive holders with some nice spelling votives

Snacks - it's common for the bride & groom to be very hungry after the wedding - it's a LONG day and they don't usually eat very much!

And anything else you might think they would like/appreciate. If they are leaving for their honeymoon, maybe a GC to spend at their honeymoon destination (dinner at one of the restaurants, etc).

I can almost guarantee that no one else will do that for them. My sister loved it! I put it in her limo right as they were leaving and it was a huge surprise!

This is an easy one,
Create a triad with three pictures;
One picture of the sister's mom and fathers wedding pic,
and one of the grandmother and grandfathers wedding pic,
then at the bottom a lovely picture of the soon to be wed couple.
This does not have to be a full colour picture. You could create with colour photos then have local photo shop copy and print in black and white.
You can arrange the triad up and down, diagonal, or in a cascade.
The pictures can be faint, and in black and white, like candle lit images, label the pictures in an antiquated style giving names and dates of marriage.
This would be a lovely homage to their family and tradition.
Surround the photos with an outline of faint flowers, and doves, and lace(use actual scrapbook cut outs, or very small embroidery type flowers).
Good Luck!

If you're crafty, you can make the unity candle. It's really easy. Just buy a pillar candle, get one of the invitations, and buy some lace, tiny flowers, and pearl pushpins.

Glue the lace around the pillar, although I've seen it done with no lace at all. Use the push pins to stick the invitation on the candle, and the use the push pins to attach the tiny flowers around the invitation for decoration. Be sure to use a thimble.

Well your attendance is good enough, to be there to witness a wedding of a dear friend will melt the heart, prayers that their marriage will last for a lifetime and just some ordinary household amenities will do and that will depend on your budget, but what the heck it's the thought that goes with it that counts.

As a wedding gift, you can go to your local wine store and find a few bottles of wine. One that matures in a year, one that matures in five and one that matures in 10. As for her mother passing away, have your boyfrind track down a picture of the mother, or maybe even one of the sister and the mother and have it matted and framed....have it done professionally.

I think if you find a great photo of her and mother together, maybe take it to a photo shop and get it enlarged and made into black and white, put it in a beautiful frame and get somthing inscipted at the bottom , that would be extremly touching to her and im sure she will find it very speacial.

I just got married this last couple weeks, July 22, and we received a somewhat common gift yet unique... It is a beautiful chime clock that is engraved with our names, date, etc....but it chimes everyday at the time we got married... a real pretty song chime.... we just love it.... I have never seen one before and this will always stand out above all the other gifts, even though we love everything else... It's just very unique.....

You could give her a locket with her mother's picture in it. She doesn't have to wear it on her wedding day but she could tuck it in her bouquet or pin it on the inside of her dress so she has a little part of her mom with her as she walks down the isle.

This is her wedding not yours. Find out where she's registered and buy her a tasteful gift she will use. Have fun at the wedding but try and keep the focus on her.
