being that you did not describe yourself in any way other than you have children, it would be difficult for me to provide advice on your situation. I was raised in FL and could help, but need more info from you. Culture, ages, likes, dislikes, do you enjoy a fast pace/slow pace, Water/ocean, etc

It depends which part of Florida you moved to. I live in Ridge Manor about 45 miles North of Tampa up I-75. Quiet nice little community, mostly snowbirds and golfers.
Florida has a wide range of scenery and lifestyles. Tampa and South Florida are your beachy, trendy, party areas. But North of Tampa, are your more rural, woodsy quieter ,easy-going communities, also cheaper to live. Florida is a great place to live, thats why everybody wants to be here. Most people are very nice, particularly North of Tampa, if you are A Church family, that is the best way to meet new families, or most communities in Florida have weekend events, such as cruise-ins (downtown gets filled with classic cars and people walk and talk and they have contests)and carnivals.
You can use the websites myflorida.com or baynews9.com, tbo.com, lots of local information.
Good Luck

Samantha, there are very few true Floridians living in Florida and I seriously doubt you have met them all, particularly me, so why would you make such a statement as to say "Floridiots are stand-offish"?! Extremely RUDE!

Sarasota is a great place. Close to some great beaches and a very nice town.
We just bought a condo there that we are renting out on a yearly basis and hope to move down there in a few years. A very good location and was not effected by any of the hurricanes.

well 1st make sure you are both 100% ready to live together before you do its a big step. Also if you have not yet maybe spend weekends or a few nights a week together just to see how you are together if you can handle it and you feel its what you want then move in together. learn to share duties like cooking, cleaning, household stuff, have fun and enjoy life. decide who will keep track of the checkbook and things so you know when bills are due. Hope this helps

Floridiots are a little stand-offish because of all the tourists and transients they meet. Better not to get too friendly with new people is a common attitude because they might leave suddenly. Be patient and amuse yourself and eventually true friends will come when you don't expect them. I saw something about O-town this is kind of a wierd place. You might like St Pete or Bradenton better. Sarasota is cool, but kinda pricey.

My family moved to Florida from Ohio when I was a kid. My dad was in the military, so, we were blessed in moving to Pensacola. We lived inland about five miles, but still close enough to go to the beach anytime. My parents said that it was a cheap form of entertainment. I truly believe in returning, someday for that cheap entertainment that I enjoyed when I was a kid. There is something about the beach that just draws you back. Good Luck!

Get involved in your community. Put your kids into sports if they're interested. It's a great way to make new friends. Also you can do volunteer work in your community. Good luck to you. By the way- where in Florida (I live in the Tampa Bay area).

I need more info. Florida has it all, and all is not in one area. If you like city living...Orlando, beach with a touch of city... Daytona, straight up beach.... Cocoa, Lower Alabama... Ft. Walton, Best beach Destin... middle of nowhere... Middleburg, middle of Orlando-Daytona.... Deltona, Quite big city...Tallahassee, and on and on.
