I'm trying to burn media onto a CD. I bought brand new CDs from Walmart - Memorex Ultra Speed Rewritable 700mb and 80 minutes. Everytime I put the CD in, it's not reading it. And if I goto windows media player...and click copy to CD or device it says the CD-R drive is in use. WHATS GOING ON?? They were 5 in a package....and i tried each one of them? HELP.

i think i had a problem like this. basically, a fatal error happened in ur cd drives. u have to reinstall them. they will work after uv done it.
heres what i did:
1. hit start and right click on my computer. click properties.
2. a thingy shouold pop up. click on the hardware tab
3. click on device manager.
4. click the + next to cd/dvd drives to show the drives you have.
5.right click each one, and click uninstall.
6.restart your computer.
7. once restarted, the found new hardware wizard should see that you have someithing that is not installed. follow its directions to reinstall them.

hope this helps. i had the same problem before. they would work, but it was like they were busy all the time, and nothing would even detect they were their. even if this isnt the problem, i beleave that it would fix most probs.

It has been the experience of many PC users that not all CD-ROM drives are capable of reading Rewritable CDs.

Try with a normal CDR blank disc (writable once) and see if your CD Drive is working. If it works, then there is nothing wrong with your drive.

Thereafter you can decide if you can go for a new drive which can accept CDRWs as well.

My suggestion is to upgrade to a DVD RW (for both + and - DVD blanks) - which also write/rewrites CDs as well as DVDs, Available for $ 30 (NEC, IOmega etc).

This problem happens always. Try CD-RW because sometimes CD-R can cause lots of problems especially when Burning every kind of files. Get CD-RW so that it causes no problem. Sometimes viruses take a space in your CD Drive so that means the drive is busy due to empty space in the CD Drive
