When I listen to the am frequency theres a lot of crackling. Sometimes its so bad I can't hear the station. Its not a bad signal, it sounds like electrical because when I turn the ignition off the crackling goes away.

Hi Your problem can be caused by several things.
1 there is no suppresion on your coil or the suppresor has gone faulty. (Crackling that increases in speed as the engine is reved), you can get these from any motorfactor.
2 there is no suppresion on your alternator(whining noise that increases when engine is reved)
3 Bad connection on your aerial. The aerial has a coaxial cable on it and on most cars the aerial must be earthed to the bodywork to stop interfearance. This is done by the aerial itself when its fitted as there is a metal base plate on them, try undoing the nut on the top of the aerial and removing it ,then give the area around the hole a good clean(underneath not on top)where the aerial fits.
If this doesn't work try fixing a wire from the body part of the aerial to a good earth on the car to see if it stops the noise.
If none of the above work try replacing the aerial as the coaxial cable may have perished!
This should keep you busy for a while!
Hope theres something usefull there!!!!!

You are getting engine noise through your speakers, you have to get a noise filter, or a better radio.
