1) Putting in the sun will make it ripen unevenly and the fruit will decay fast.
2) Wrap it with a thick cloth (wollen) and keep it in a warm place fruits that take a week to ripen will ripe in two days in this method.
3) boiling it will also speed up the ripening since it is for the baby it is not the right thing to do.

Commercial growers often bathe the produce in Ethelyne gas to ripen the fruit. Thats why you find Lush, red Tomatoes with green centers in them sometimes.
You can do this yourself, right in the Kitchen with a Banana and a Baggie. Put your fruit in the Baggie with the Banana and seal it up. Next, put it on top of the refrigerator and check the fruit daily.
The banana gives off ethelyne gas as it ripens which in turn, ripens the fruit.

All fruits that ripen put off this ethylene gas. By enclosining the apple and banana in with the Avocado, the ethylene gas becomes trapped, building up heat and helping the Avocado ripen a bit faster.

I've heard a paper bag helps trap the gases that ripen the fruit.

Put it in a paper bag - the darkness helps it to ripen quickly. I am not sure if that is the only reason why, but it works.
Cheers to you for making your baby's food from scratch!! Go momma!!

What kind of fruit? Some things do better when you put them in a paper bag instead of in the sun. Either way keep out of the fridge for sure.

I sometimes put fruit in a brown grocery bag. That helps ripen quicker.

Yes. Put them in the sun and somewhere warm. If I can recall my science lessons, its called photosynthesis (Ain't got a clue how to spell it) and then nature will do the rest, you will still have to wait though but hopefully for a shorter time.
Or fruit market places usually do deals on ripe fruit. As long as you wash them when you get home they will be fine for baby.
