Here is a website that you can read about potty training:
http://www.easypottytraining.com/
They say that your child will let you know when they are ready to potty train. My son was closer to 4 before he finally got the full hang of it.
Keep a potty handy. If you have an upstairs make sure one is up there so he can go. People have been known to keep them in the Living Room so the child gets use to it being there and will eventually use it.
At the age of 3, they want to be independent and do things on themselves. Maybe he wants to do this on his own. In the meantime, try giving him big boy underwear and if he has accidents, just change them and put clean ones on without making a fuss over it. He definitely will not be comfortable without the diaper protection and might make the choice to go to the potty himself. Or, if you don't want to deal with that mess, just leave him in diapers until he is ready. I found pull-ups more for the grown ups than for the child. They were difficult to change and kids don't really get the feel of real underwear.
Have him go in with Daddy when he goes pee so he knows what he should do.
After awhile of this with my son and giving him a treat when he did it really worked.

propper little pants are what you need, they know pull ups are the same as a nappy.you have to have a few pottys around but while we have this nice weather it worth a try. when you get your son dressed in the morning dress him as you would on the top but only put pants on the bottom,he must be able to see them, then every few minutes you have to keep saying, :dont wet them pants: do you want a we we, im afraid you will be saying this in your sleep because you have to keep his mind on not wetting his pants,if he dose a wee on the potty make a huge fuss of it tell him how clever he is phone somone he knows like nanny or daddy and tell them how clever he is (so he can hear you) its trial and error really he will do it but only with constant reminding from you it might be a good idea to stay in for a week use your garden let him get the hang of it first good luck... oh by the way when he wets the pants, dont make a big thing out of that just say oh no an accident never mind and change them...

I have never used pull-ups as to me they would probably just feel like a nappy anyway. I've been potty-training my youngest this week. We have tried to stay inside as much as possible as going out somewhere takes there mind off what they should be doing. Whenever my son does a wee on the potty we all cheer and he gets a big kiss from everyone. This seems to be all the encouragement he needs.

Did you try putting cheerios in the toilet and telling him to shoot them with his pee? It sounds stupid but that's how my mom taught my brother. I have girl who turned 3 in April and would go potty in pull-up and then take it off and put another on. It got really frustrating because she knew what she was doing! Finally, we went to an open house for head start to see something with my one friend and my daughter got excited she loved being around the other kids in "school" I told her she couldn't go to school until she went potty like a big girl no more diapers. I swear! Since that day she even stays dry at night and uses no diapers at all she is a panty girl! That was 3 weeks ago so I hope she keeps it up. Good Luck!

well if you don't mind the mess skip the pull-ups and put him in big boy undies. they don't like the feeling of being sopping wet or the other. that is how i trained my three boys. you have to be able to be around home where he can just wear his underwear. also let him pick out his underwear. get him excited aobut it. i also didn't have my boys sit on the potty to pee. they stood on a stool and used the toilet. less confusing. good luck. boys take some time.

I totally agree with your pull-up theory. With my son, I put him in big boy underwear and I would take him to the restroom every couple of minutes to try to get him to go. When he went in the potty, I made a huge deal about him and praised him with lots of hugs and kisses. If he had an accident, I would take him to the bathroom to show him where he was supposed to go and tell him peeing in his underwear was gross. Eventually he got tired of being gross, so he quit peeing in his pants. I had a lot of time to work with him, being a stay at home mother, but it only took about a week for us. Good luck.

every hour take the little one to the toilet and let him just sit on it for a few minutes it won't take very long. Hell catch on fast i"m potting training my granddaughter and she is learning fast. She's only 2 make a big happy deal by clapping and telling them how good they did when they deposit even a little in the pot. Have lots of patience and keep a smile on your face. And sing the song your a big boy now they really do like it and try harder Good Luck Grandma Rosey

sit him on the potty as soon as he gets up in the morning. after he use the potty give him a treat something like some fruit snack or maybe ice cream or maybe even candy something that you know that he likes. my mother in-law would give her boys stickers after they used the potty. hope they work

You have to make him feel comfortable. If he is sitting down making poo poo, sit with him and tell him or read him a story. My mom trained my nephew like that and it worked. Tell him that he is a big boy and when he finishes make a big stink about it (kiss him, hug him, smother him) that will make him feel good about himself. Good luck.

I believe my sister-in-law had them watch dad. Then they wanted to be like daddy. If that's not an option, sometimes letting them target shoot...using cheerios floating the toilet works. Or rewarding them with a couple M&M's when then go to the toilet.
Good Luck!
