I'm helping someone startup a autobody shop and they don't want to have to fork out hundreds of dollars for Quickbooks if all they need it for is Invoicing.

If you are willing to pay for a software package, I suggest QuickBooks.

Search Download.com or other Freeware sites for invoicing software.
You may not find anything like quickbooks but it will probably be just as useable.

Use MS Access and create new. I believe there is a template that may meet your needs.
