No one truly knows for sure. Anyone who says they do are trying to sell you on an idea. But, most of the research done to try to find out suggests that our consciousness just winks out into nothingness. The tunnel of light is a phenomena that is reproduceable with oxygen deprovation to the brain, and is usually accompanied by a feeling of uphoria as well. At least dying can be a calm peaceful experience, as long as it's not a violent death. Good luck.

You either go to Heaven or Hell, it depends on you. Also if you do not accept Christ as the son of God, you might not get there either. You see, if you go by the Bible, it gives you these guidelines. It is always easy to say, "OH, that is a bunch of fairy tales", but do you really want to take that chance? What if it is real. You have to get with the program. If you don't want to take that chance, I would suggest you start praying, going to church, learning the Bible, helping others so they will go with you, and just devote your life, (which is not very long compared to eternity), to your spirituality and put God in your heart. Or would you rather join all the other non-believers, and take that chance of being on the wrong side. Make my day, chose wrong, and guess what, you will find out the hard way.

Eternal oblivion, and you get there by dying - No effort involved at all! :-)

If there were really 'life after death' (an oxymoron in itself) then there would need to be some part of us that survives our physical death - Usually referred to as a 'soul'.

What exactly could a soul be? What properties might it have? What part of 'you' might reside in the soul?

If it's postulated that consciousness, or awareness, or sense of self resides in the soul, it's difficult to see how this can be reconciled with the complete oblivion which accompanies general anaesthesia. How could a straightforward chemical, injected into the bloodstream, anaesthetise a soul so that it effectively ceases to exist during this time? If consciousness, in the form of a soul, were some kind of supernatural faculty, it would seem implausible that it could be completely disabled by a chemical.

How about some of the other things which we regard as essential parts of what makes a person what they are? How about love, compassion, reason, empathy, memory, conscious thought, character, 'spirituality' and so on? Well, there is really no plausible doubt that all these things are properties of the physical brain - We can alter all of these properties very simply with alcohol or other drugs, and observe how they change in people who have suffered significant brain damage. Previously placid people become uncontrollably violent, intelligent people become imbeciles, and so on. Stimulate the brain artificially, and the subject reports corresponding mental activity, e.g. 'religious experiences'. We can see from brain research that all these things - thought, emotion, sensation, character traits and so on - are correlated with activity in the brain, and some things can be identified with specific areas of the brain.

So, if all these faculties and characteristics of what we regard as the 'person' reside in the physical brain, as seems to be undeniably the case, and they all cease when the person dies, then what is left to be attributed to a 'soul'? As far as I can ascertain: Nothing. If there is no part of us that can continue after death, then there is no 'afterlife'... and if there is no afterlife, then most of religion is null and void.

Belief in al-akhirah (life after death) is so crucial to the Islamic faith that any doubts about it amount to the denial of Allah (God). Allah’s own word in the Qur’an is the foundation of this faith. Besides, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) explained the centrality of this belief for a person who wishes to lead an Islamic life.

We know that we have no means of knowing life after death as a perceptual experience. But Allah has given us certain levels of consciousness that provide us with insight into realities not perceptible through the senses. The Qur’an speaks to our rational mind when it answers the disbelievers who ask, “Who will give life to the dead bones?” The answer is, of course, the One Who created them.

Allah in the Holy Qur’an appeals to man’s reasoning and addresses his power of reflection and judgment by asking him to reflect on how rain revives the dead earth. This is something that is obvious to us; if so, how can we then deny the truth of the resurrection, when Almighty Allah can just as easily revive the dead bones as He revives the earth?

(It is Allah Who sends forth the Winds, so that they raise up the clouds, and We drive them to a land that is dead, and revive the earth therewith after its death: even so [will be] the Resurrection!) (35: 9).

The Qur’an repeatedly tells us that those who believe and do righteous deeds will be greatly rewarded in the afterlife, while those who disbelieve and do bad deeds will be severely punished.

Belief in life after death gives meaning to our life, for it tells us that this life is only a test and preparation for an eternal life. Furthermore, we know that in the afterlife we will receive justice for all the wrongs we suffer here. It may seem that the sinful and corrupt are often happier or wealthier than the righteous, but that is only for a short time. In the afterlife they will get their due.

Belief in life after death encourages a person to lead a good life on earth, since he knows the fate that awaits him if he ignores the commands and warnings of Allah given in the Qur’an. In fact, belief in the afterlife is the strongest incentive for a person to lead a life of virtue

All of the above would be a general wrong.

We do have an after life, believe it or not... seriously, if you believe it or not. There will be places, Heaven and Hell. There is no middle ground for those who choose not to follow Christ.

Remember though, being a Christian isn't simply following a bunch of rules, whend one according to the Bible Christianity is radical in a way, life is new and joyus and you have a relationship with Christ, and not just a boring Sunday service. Church does not save, and neither does following just a bunch of rules, but a personal relationship with Christ.

Dear one One thing u must keep in mind that we have born here because there is some work due by us to complete in this life span. Right or Wrong, only two alternatives because there is one nucleus point inside you which is watching all your activities second by second. This will decide that you are obeying the path of God or else where. As we have our family all members have to do some work similarly all world is His family. Just keep faith on existence of SATYA keep your heart clear and pure and don't think elsewhere, He will think of you. This is my practical experience.

Either eternity with God or eternity with the Devil.
You can get to have an eternity with God by accepting into your heart Jesus Christ and acknowledge Him as your Lord and Saviour and repent for the sins you did.
You can get to hell by rejecting God's gift of forgiveness.

It depends on belief system that you mostly hold on to while you are on physical plane. It will be manifested to you after you go to the other side.
