latex... well, for "modern" ones, it's latex. Some are made in some sort of plastic for those who are alergic to latex.
Funny thing: condoms already existed as far as middle age (and before, according to wikipedia, but it's the 1st time I've heard of it, so...). Before 1930 and the use of latex, they used the pork bowels as condom (they made a knot at the end to prevent sperm from coming out.)
But they broke often, and were'nt as good as latex to prevent STDs from spreading

latex- the material is typically made in Asia. It comes from a tree sap that is placed over a form. It is then sprayed with agents that speed up the drying process. This is done to make production of these products economical This also prevents the latex from harding into a gum like substance. These agents and latex proteins are the source of many latex allergies. Latex allergies are actually become a bigger problem in the modern world.
There are new non-latex ones made for latex allergies. Non - latex products are made of various materials (such as neoprene) that depends on the company making it.

Latex is the standard substance used these days.
Some people are allergic to it tho'.
Historically condoms have been made from fish guts and lamb skins. And I do know that the lamb-skin variety were available until quite recently, possibly could still be. However you would have to specify when purchasing and I'm certain that in some countries such as India, encasing your member in an animal gut would be a taboo!
The problem with these versions of the condom are:
1. Fit is bad - so they slip off very easily, counter productive.
2. As an item made from what was a living substance, the condom is porous - which means that things like the Aids virus can pass thru' it from one person to another. Very ineffective if you're employing a condom to protect your health status.

Well, that depends on what brand of condom you have. Life styles are latex for the most part and then Trojan can be latex also but then there are sheep skin for the people who are allergic to latex. but if you are allergic to latex and your partner is allergic to sheep skin save the money or you both will get screwed but not in the way you want!!!!
