First of all, you did not describe what kind of priest was declaring himself as gay? There are some churches were marriage is allowed and they are Christians also. Not all of them are in celibate.
About other question I have to agree with you, because I am a Christian too, but because of the church attitude (materialism) I don't believe in the institution of Church. I believe in good, but not in religion.

Good question, I can't say I could provide a good answer, and then once again I don't go to a Catholic or Luthern church.
However, to blame churches for the athesim is crazy. It is just peoples natural feeling to rebel against God, through sin and out right refusual of him, plain an simple. You can't blame a certain group for this.
New age evangelicals although having a bad start, are really reforming the natural church enviroment as we know it and are leading more to Christ. Look at it, we have super churches with tens of thousands of members...

It's not that they are sexless, after all it's apparent sex is in their life.
Referring to the wicked Pharisees, Jesus said to judge a tree by the fruitage it bears.
Apply that council to the demented priest, and you'll see who is really not a follower and doer of Christ.
It' okay for a minister to marry and have sex within God's guidelines.
Sexual activity other than that, is fornication.

What does gay have to do with being an atheist?
I agree with your comment about churches (actually, the bible) creating more atheists than believers, but I fail to see a connection with homosexuality.

Not sexless. Celibate.
But, as we have learned, the sex drive cannot be denied and when it comes in conflict with precepts, for some, problems occur.
