Don't sleep for the previous 18 hours. I've flown round the world more than once and I don't enjoy take-offs and landings. Anything that happens at over 30.000 feet is likely to be over in seconds. Flying from eastern Turkey back to Switzerland, I was so tired that I fell asleep before take-off. When I woke up we were half to Istanbul. Highly recommended.
Worst air journey ever was Mt. Isa to Townsville, Australia. It was like a corporation bus. Kept landing in the middle of nowhere and then taking off again.
Take a good book and start reading it before the plane taxis out.

i have a place in turkey, its a great country full of history so well worth the trip. Why scared of flying?? If its travel sickness eat some ginger nut biscuits before you fly, ginger settles the stomach, i do it all the time. If its fear of flying, go to boots, and look for the medicines that make you drowsy, and knock yourself out for the flight, i do this too, fall asleep, wake up in a different country, and you dont have to listen to some tosser waffle on in the seat behind you.

I'm scared of flying too! Last time I went, I started reading a really good book and then stopped myself reading just as it was getting good. Then allow yourself to read it again on the flight, and hopefully you will get to engrosed to worry too much. Also breath deeply if you get scared.

Try the Bach Flower remedy called "Rock Rose" - it's for feelings of irrational fear/terror... works well for people who are afraid of flying. One of my mums friends had some the first time she went on a plane, seemed to do the trick.

Just stay calm, nothing will happen to you, thousands of people fly every day, it's more dangerous to be in a car. Enjoy the hols

My advice would be to having a few drinks before you get on the plane to calm your nerves, read something before the plane take off to steady the nerves. It is safer than driving or walking so you will be fine.

Best of luck
