The list follows, but first.. sorry to say.. I wouldn't do it. Not a good time to be on the road. Consider an alternative, like staying overnight somewhere and wait until the New Years Eve drunks are off the road (or laying somewhere on the road, but out of their vehicles).

But if you must:
-rent a car/mini van at Laguardia and return it at Newark. It's cheaper than you'd think.. for the 5 of you, but avoid crossing midtown Manhattan as "the ball people" make Times Square and the surrounding areas into a gridlocked mess.
-car service (see listing below)
-M60 Bus from Laguardia to W116th and Broadway in Manhattan. (Spend a few minutes cheering in the New Year with Columbia Univ. students.) Then take the #1 train to 34th street/Penn Station. At Penn station, you can take either NJ Transit or Amtrak to Newark Airport. I've taken both and they're fine. (NJ Transit is cheaper.)

Take a car service. Some of them have coupons on line. These are the two we have been using for years.
