Or is it a purely physical thing?

Back in the day, acupuncture was merely another weapon in man's arsenal of goodies intended to help him grow bith spiritually and emotionally.

Chinese religion tends toward the holistic and they believed that unless the body was operating on all cylinders, the human being could not possibly reach his/her full potential. Since certain illnesses or disabilities seemed to stem from energy blockages, they unblocked the passage. Thus acupuncture. When the energy flows as it should the body stays healthy and the person can then concentrate on spiritual growth.

Today, research has shown that in one way they were right. The body, being living, gives off energy. Bio-electrical energy. If that emanation is blocked it's gotta go somewhere. So it doubles back and clobbers whatever tissues it encounters. You don't want the bio-electricity stuck within. So, acupuncture provides a release point, sorta like a lightning rod. It directs the bio-electricity away from the tissues of the body and on out to the world beyond where it quickly dissipates harmlessly into the atmosphere.

Pretty clever, actually.

Hey i got the answer from my history book and will like to share it with you.

The ancient Chinese had their own ways of treating illnesses, with Taoism heavily influencing their treatment methods. The Chinese believed that illnesses resulted when the natural forces of the yin and yang in the body were unbalanced. Balance could be restored with the patient eating the correct food or taking herbs or sometimes relieving pain through acupuncture.

A unique feature of Chinese medicine was acupuncture. Acupuncture involves the insertion of the tips of needles into specific parts of the body to relieve pain and help healing. Developed c . 800 BCE , acupuncture continues to be every popular today .

Its purely physical for those who need it to help their body. But it does open up pressure points where certain religions do feel are blocked chakras that release energy. But its a universal practice that originated in Asia. It is no more spiritual than chiopractors.

not that I know of, but I had a year of it, and have a low pain thresh hold, so it hurt like hell. I have fibromyalgia, so my pain is up at high level. It is not like that for everyone. The doctor talked about pulses but they were not the same as regular ones and blocked energy and then he said my syndrome was too dificult for him when I told him it did not work.
