i didnt think tea was mind-altering...

I've tried both, often. I do not believe that conventional tea alters my mind. It may stimulate it a bit, but doesn't alter it. Whereas, marijuana does several different things, including:
increasing appetite (mind?)
relaxing and making drowsy
increasing fear, perhaps paranoia
altering sense of time and space
increasing sensitivity to colours and sounds
has hypnotic effect on the mind (we call "goofing")
somewhat of a sexual stimulant

On the other hand, I find green tea to be an appetite suppressant and black tea with sugar an appetite stimulate.
