I asked this question earlier. And received very few answers. And the answers seemed to be more concerned with convincing me the bible is the "word of God" rather than answering the question.

I'm asking when was the very first time in your life you were told or made aware the bible is not just another book, it is purportedly the "word of God."

Example: When I was (age) my (whomever) told me so. Or however you came to be aware that the bible is supposed to be unique.

Another example (based on my own experience):

When I was about 5 or 6, I began reading. My parents, primarily my mother, told me that the bible was the "word of God." I do not recall her using those exact words, but the implication was clear that the bible was not just another book.

Thanks for your answers.

This isn't a quiz. There is no right or wrong answer. Is the question that difficult?

I'm not asking if you believe the bible to be the "word of God," nor am I asking you to convince others.

I'm asking when you became aware that it is supposed to be the "word of God," and how you came by that information.

I attended catacism (sp) as a youth. I was told that the words of Jesus were in fact the word of God. I believe anything Jesus is said to have quoted is the word of God. Not so sure of the Old Testament though.

When I was about 18, I desired to seek the truth. I had the same questions all atheist have, I was very skeptical. I mean why should I believe something that comes from a book. Although I don't agree with the circular reason theory. If I wanted to prove someone lived in the white house, wouldn't I be allowed to go inside to check. Anyhow I decided you know what, I'm going to read this bible, and atleast be able to say, that I tried to God, if there was one. After reading the bible I began to understand how it was not any ordinary book. It explained to me how the Earth was formed in the very begining. All the animals, the conscience, men, and women, and everything in the univerese. It also shows how the people all began with the same language and then split at a place called Babel. It showed how Isreal was formed, and how the Muslims came into existance. Abraham had two sons Issac and Ishmael, and Issac the blessed one become the Jewish people, and Ishmael become the Arab people. The World always had a promblem with the Jewish people, and it will continue a prophecy from scripture. Ever wonder why the small city of Jersualem was focused by the entire world. The prophet Jeremiah wrote about the destruction of Jersualem, which he predicted right on in time and year. Daniel prophecies against about the four kingdoms coming to power, Babylon, Persia, Greek, and Roman. All which were fufilled. He also predicts Christ birth, born in the town of Bethleham, a seed of David. The list goes on. He even prophecies about future events things that are happening right now, how could he forsee these things.Jesus did many miracles in wonders in the world. Time was measured from him BC. And two hollidays Easter and Christmas celebrate this man, yet some even doubt his very existance. Although I would say never believe anything unless there's some substancial evidence. Christ was crucified publicly in front of everyone. The Roman guards secured the tomb, so nobody could steal the body. He was seen by over 200 people after his ressurection. 10 of the 12 disciples were martyred for their faith. Would they have been willing to preach the gospel if it was a fraud? But anyway I felt I was a good enough person to make heaven if there was a God, even though I wasn't positive of one. I hadn't stole anything valuable, murdered anyone, or commited adultery. But then I read Jesus words, I felt upset and angry. I knew I was guilty, and thought it was impossible. He said you shouldn't lie, he said looking at women to lust after her is commiting adultery within the heart, and hating your brother is the same as murder. Then I understood why God had come in the flesh. So that we could be forgiven, if we took on his spirit. Whenever I asked God, to save me the supernatural happened. He gave me full assurance of my faith. Obviously telling you this would just make an argument. Since I can't show you it. All I'm saying if you want to know the truth, seek and you will find. This is promised in scripture. If you would rather die, believing a lie, nobodys going to stop you. But God is real. Just like we can't imagine a new color in our minds. It is impossible to create a new concept. And a unicorn is only a horse with a horn. God is supernatural, therefore people are incapable of creating such an idea.

Through out the Bible it tells of God telling different people what to say and what to write (therefore God's word).

I know many different people who are baptized with God's Spirit and they are all moved to accept the Bible totally.

From a logically point of view, (for one thing) the Bible is about 2000 years old. Dinosaurs have been extinct for millions of years (according to evolution) and unknown of until the 1800's. The Bible talks about dragons (the word dinosaur was first used in about 1880), Leviathan, Behemoth, unicorns. There are stones in Texas (as well as across the country and around the world) that have human and dinosaur foot prints together (even overlapping). This means that evolution is wrong, and the Bible is correct.

The idea the bible is "Word of God" i thought was because the people who wrote after being told stories passed on generation to generation had a personal alliance (friendship) with God example Moses was told the ten commandements by God tellign him what to write (I'm not too sure but they still stand pretty much really).

I believe in God but i think the bible has been misinterupted way too much (it has been converted to several languages and remember then they didn't have translators like now!)and so i read it but don't take it literally and it's a powerful book ( i think casues more problems then lessens them) but Geroge W Bush reads the bible but clearly doesn't read it properly as he shoudln;t allow attrocities in the world to happen! But he is the anti-christ! So what the hell! Plus he won't last that long!

Now people are brianwashed for many reasons!

1. As human beings wish to have "Hope" (faith if your religious not spirtual) it is the thing that keeps us going until we die!

2. We are now being told by the goverment and other people in power (who are already f*cking up the world, look at the state of it and it ain't gettign better folks) what to do, instead of leaving it to free choice.

3. Like God wouldn't tell people not to drink but would warn not OTT (but you learn a lesson form drinking too much by getting a hangover) and in moderation!

4. However if he is the creator of everything then he has also had to create bad people as well as good along with good things and bad things!

5. Another exampel God would never tell people to not have sex until marriage but would expect people to have sex with the person they love (at the time?), maybe they may not get married!

6. Free choice is important but you must take the consequences for this in whatever you do!

7. I have now come up with 6-7 ideas so what i have stated could be part of a book, but would you believ what i said but if over 1000 peopel said the same thign and wrot eit in a book would you believe then?

The question for you really is "Is the bible valid anymore!"

Well, I think it is God who proves to a person, like me, that the bible in fact is not just another book.
I've experienced God move in my life as His Words dwell within my soul.
Let me give you a true incident that happened to me, there is a verse in the Bible that says, "And these signs will follow those who believe in MY NAME they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; They will take up serpents and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover." Mark 16:17-18
My brother was brought to the hospital because he had a seizure. This happened 5 years ago. In the hospital ward were I stayed with my brother, mom, and nanny, there was a little boy(3 yrs old) who was unconscious for about 3 days because of drug overdose. My nanny told me that we ought to pray for the kid. We asked permission from the kid's parents. Then we both went to his bedside and I and my nanny laid our hands on his feet and prayed loudly, we ended the prayer with IN JESUS NAME, I pray, amen. After ten minutes the child woke up!
There was a time also that three dogs suddenly came running towards me, my brother, and mother, they were going to bite us. My mom shouted, with authority,"IN JESUS NAME!" One of the dogs run away and the two others just stood there then I also said,"IN JESUS NAME!" and to my surprise, they turned their backs!
The Bible is God's Word that's what makes it so powerful. Knowing what God's Words are is like holding an atomic bomb ready to explode and to change your life!

When I recived Christ 4 years ago I began to read in the New Testament and although I have tried to read it many times before, this time it was different. The Lord opened my understanding and it was like he was speaking directly to me. It is definately a spiritual thing, because like I said before, I tried MANY times to read it hoping to learn more about HIm, but to no avail. I am 32, and growing up I always hated reading, now I love reading Gods word, I feel closer to HIm each time I do. Other than a few other Christian writers, it is the only book that I enjoy reading. Noone ever referred to it as Gods word to me, until after I had already began reading it and going to church. So to answer your question, I got the idea it was His word, form reading it for myself. After God opens ones eyes to the truths it holds, there can be no doubt, but to non-believers or non-christians, I can see why they would doubt because I did until I was saved by Christ. Oh and by the way, I did not recieve Christ by some program on TV or at a church house, I was alone in my home and simply asked Him. A few days later, He delivered. I drank ALOT, and lived in terrible sin and the last thing I wanted was to change, well after that one prayer, which I thought went unheard for a few days, He revealed how many times He had tried to reveal Himself to me and I was to blind and preoccupied with my own desires to listen. I hope this is an acceptable answer for you because it is entirely true. Peace.

When I was 10 (actually more like 12) my grandmother told me so. I asked why this is so. She had no answer other then "The answer is contained within." Well, I didn't find it. Only a bunch of people who kept affirming that it was the "Word of God" but not really why. I did not feel that I was "listening" to God.
I thought she was full of it and I still do.

Throughout the Old Testament many of the chapters start out: "And the word of the Lord..." or "The voice of the Lord came unto...: or "The word of God was spoken to...." I can only prove that the Bible is the word of God using the Bible itself. Since the Bible is a collection of writings over many centuries by many writers there is no specific passage that declares it to be the word of God. Because of its content and its durability over the centuries theologians have declared it to be the word of God. God himself has not refuted this conclusion; therefore it must be the word of God. There is much that has to be taken by faith---that is the way life is in general. All systems of belief, even scientific, require faith in the evidence of things not seen in order to produce beliefs. If we cannot have faith that the Bible is the word of God, then there is no point in referencing the scriptures, and we that believe in the Bible are the saddest people of all. God expects us to have faith in his revealed word, which is why he gave it to us. Those who have no faith in the Bible can expect nothing from God because they reject the witness of the Holy Spirit. Jesus loves you and he wants you to continue in God's word. Read the Bible from a standpoint of faith and you will be richly rewarded beyond your wildest dreams. I have been so rewarded.

Quite young for me. 9, 10 maybe.
My Dad told me. That was about it. Told me a few stories from it. The rest came from others and personal study.

What the Bible went through to be with us today, alone shows divine support and backing.

Are you conducting a research or something?

I dont see what that would do to you except for research purpose. You have already said you dont want to be convinced so what can anyone do to help you.
Whatever one's mother told him wouldnt change anything. Those of us who believe in God's word do not believe because of our parents but on personal conviction.
If anyone's belief is based on what his parents said then the realities of life would definitely errode that belief.
Read the bible for yourself then choose to believe it or not. It is basically your choice.
