Many people do good things, but only so they can be praised, or for other selfish reasons.
Still, they do good things for whatever reason.
Other people, help others by just being a good person, afterall, rudeness only helps to ruin the econemy.

I know nothing about your deeds, mrs. Debra M, but i believe you're a decent person....But any respect i have for you didn't stop me from correcting your statement.
Thanks for the comment though.=P

Being good...Even if you do good things it doesn't mean you're a good person...The first thing God look at is your heart, not your deeds. Besides, if you're a good person you will do good things. So we should start by being good persons and then good deeds will follow. It's what Paul says in 1 Corinthians 13:
"1. If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
2. If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
3. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing."
I guess being a good person means to love one's neighbour...because "he who does not love does not know God, for God is love." (1 John 4:8) and see further in the same chapter verse 20...

I don't think you can be a good person without doing good deeds, but nor will a bad person do good deeds with the right intentions.
I think there are also plenty of 'good people' that believe they are good without actually doing any good deeds, or then brag to everyone when they do the smallest of deeds.
Thus they are really 2 parts of the same thing, a good person will do good deeds by its very nature.

A bit of both is best - good people are hard to find but if u look into someones eyes (deep into their soul) u can tell if they are good or evil. If you are a good person and do good things now and again then that's truly what it's all about, but it's not that easy to do good things unless you get out there and offer to. Otherwise just being the nicest person you can be is a close 2nd

I think that if your a decent person you try to do your best for your self and others..
Being a good person? is classified by the opinion of others, as often what we think is being good - may not be anothers opinion and doing good is only that if perceived by the recipient as help-full.. I hope that overall I am a "good"? (not sure on the use of this word) person and that I am able to help others in turn..I think one begets the other?

Both are equally important, but both are useless unless a person is saved by the blood of Jesus. Being good and doing good deeds will not get you to heaven. You cannot earn your way through the narrow gate, nor can you buy your way through either. Jesus said: "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by me." The first priority for any person is to get saved. It is then that good works and obedience to moral principles counts. Prior to salvation all good works and good public relations amount to self-righteousness, both of which count for nothing with God. Only the blood of Jesus can justify a person's goodness and charity in the world. Jesus loves you.

I think they go together. Even if the reason you do good things is for recognition they are still good deeds as long as you follow them to the end and don't do them just for the camera. The people who receive good deeds are grateful for what you did no matter what the reason.

being a good person is doing good things to help others. so some do it for the praise, but i think, as long as there is a genuine good deed being done, its alright.

there is no such thing as a completely altruistic act
but the two things you mention go hand in hand...by being a good person surely you then do good things (or at least thats the theory ?)
i think being a good person is prob more important as from that good deeds will follow

We should not do good only to be praised. The genuine good deeds are done in private where your only reward is knowing that you helped someone.
