we were at a friends house. and he walked me out to catch a cab. gave me the hug before i left.

This means you still attracts him somehow. Maybe there is still chance to revive the emotions. Go for it but do not expect much in return so that you do not get hurt whatever the outcome. Best of luck.

He probably hugs you because it's his way of greeting. It doesn't necessarily mean he likes you beyond a friendship. If a guy says 'Let's be friends!', he really means just platonic friendship. At least he made it clear to you from the beginning rather than tell you he loves you but he's fooling behind your back. Cheer up, gal! He ain't the only guy out there. Don't wreck your brains thinking and guessing that guy's true emotion. Live life to the fullest while Mr Right comes to you!

It means he's happy to see you. I have tons if female friends. A typical reaction for me if I run into a girl I'm friends with, but haven't seen in a while is a "hello" hug and a kiss on the cheek.
They know that we're just friends, and I have no desire to make it anymore than friendship, and neither do they, I just missed them and am happy to see them.
Don't read into it too much.

Yes may be he just considers you as friend. Hug does not always mean love. Friends normally give eachother hugs.

it means he likes you and wants to be friends. my friends always greet with hugs. It is normal and expected to some degree.

why not when I breakup with my X girl we had a hug and we promised each other that we will keep seeing each other as a friend.
