Learning off the Internet is fun plus it more broad band reaches out with more interesting things after all we all know the class rooms or over crowded and we also know they cannot stop the class to help with just one child so that child that lacks behind gets left behind.

Parents need to get involved in the school and find out their kids teachers and subjects. Have good communications with the teachers and find out about the homework and study. Put the kids on a regimented regular schedule. Soon as they come home from school, they go and change clothes, hang up or put in the laundry the clothes they wore to school, then immediately have them go to an appointed spot separate from the other siblings to do their homework. No television, no music, no "I gotta have a snack first and stare at my toes".
After homework is done, parent checks it completely and signs off on it.

What i did was promised them they could do something special what they wanted within next month. on condition was they sat down and done few hours homework, they had to do this every night for a week. First i took away their favourite item they were not to have it until they had proven to me they were paying attention at school. The idea of mum going to speak to their teacher worried them. I had trouble with my step sons not wanting go to school so i tok them for a drive one evening showed them how homeless people lived on the beach park benches no food or blankets destitute. i told them these people have nothing because they ignored their education, couldnt get a job so didnt know how to survive in society. It shook them up a bit they knuckled down left school got good jobs,

I'm not a parent, but I am an educator and resent graduate and REWARDS will do it every time. When I was is college my mother would spend me money or take care of a few bills for me when she got my grades (and even when I showed her some of my test scores) And when she didn't have the money to spend she would do little things like take me out for ice cream, or bake me some homemade peanut butter cookies (sorry I'm having a moment) But it is the little things that you can do for your child that really count.

Set an uninterrupted time every day with no distractions. I think kids need to unwind a little too before coming right home and starting. Playing an instrument too can help concentrate and with the thought process.

not a parent but i remember when i was kid what my parents did. they didnt let me do anything till my work was done. i loved video games and they would hide the controls until i did my homework and both approved.so take away what they like to do the most and let them use it when work is done.oh and if bad grades tell them to kiss it goodby.that made me work hard at school.

We set a specific time in the day where they do their homework, and when they are done, they are rewarded TV or Video Game time. Plus, we ask them lots of questions about the work they are doing. They like knowing that we are interested in what they are learning.

Have a family talk, make a schedule and try to stick with it.
Don't be too radical. If you see something doesn't work, adjust the schedule accordingly.
Good luck.
