I want to add some light highlights to my hair at home. What brand/type would be good to try? I can't afford to go to a salon at the moment so something that is simple that I can't screw up too much!

Doing it yourself is pretty hard. Especially using a lightener. Color is different, as long as you apply it evenly and time it properly its hard to mess up. Color stops processing, and lightener however doesnt. It is VERY easy to overprocess/hydrolize your hair with lightener so be extremely careful if you do it yourself. Also, keep it off your scalp because lightener burns & you will probably get "hot roots"
If you couldnt tell already, I am a cosmetologist :). Be careful and follow the directions. Maybe before you do it, call around to some salons and see what they charge for a partial highlight. It's just highlights through the top and should be signifigantly cheaper than all over. Good luck!

I like the L'Oreal 2 in 1 kit. It has one color for all over and then a highlighting one to go over the top. It was easy to use and the whole thing takes like 45 minutes only. It looks just like the salon did it.
