Perhaps if you are unhappy with our rights and freedoms you would like to start your own country elsewhere? I am a Christian and many of my family have fought for ALL of our rights to believe or not believe. Some have died for this right. If you do not want this right why not leave? Why should we lose our rights?

Please understand I do believe that everyone should have the right to worship, believe, or not however they choose. I am just stating that it is the very freedoms they are wishing to do away with that give them the right to not believe and speak as the feel.

Comforting most of these answers are but you must realize we Theists cannot nor will not seperate our beliefs from our convictions. I do not believe in any state supported religion but nor do I believe in being anit religion. Christians will choose those who hold to the same ideas we are to live as we believe.

Now here is another problem I am not enslaved by Christianity I chose it. I continue to choose it. I pay taxes and follow the law and I will not hide my religion or practice it privately. I am not ashamed nor do I ask you to hide your beliefs.

Not I. The First Amendment is crucial to our society.
I've never heard that. Most atheist/agnostic just want to be left alone and don't care what you believe.

Hi. I am a 35 year old man from the UK. You seem like an extremely nice , articulate lady and I am sure that we could be civil and freindly if ever we met. Your legitimate right to choose your religion and practise should not be in question. Freedom of belief is a truly basic freedom and as such should never be attacked.
Freedom of speech is also a basic right that should be cradled and protected with everything we have.
The problem is simplified when viewed like this.
Religion relies on belief, ok? Thats to say that anybody that believes that they are in touch with the one true god is , almost by definition, unswervable in that one fact.
All religions say that they are the one true one, and that the rest are in some way incorrect.
None of them can prove anything to that effect, so the argument will never be solved.
Now. On a personal basis, Im sure that you and every other religious person in the world would agree that you get a lot of benefits from your chosen form of worship and that you wouldnt want to stop as you would feel lost or incomplete without it.
So there is the problem. No proof, total belief, inability to empathise with a non sect.
As I said, I am a "non-subscriber" and as such I am afforded a different viewpoint and this is what I see.
I see a park full of childeren arguing about whos' imaginary freind is bigger and better. And as the arguement escalates, then the childeren start to stand behind their freinds in support of them.
None of them can prove that their imaginary freind is there,so the children start to fight on their behalf.
Only they are very evenly matched so the fight goes on for a long while.
Its only when an adult arrives and tells the kids that there is no such thing as imaginary freinds, that they stop fighting.
So, and this is the last bit, who shall be the adult?
A rock star? a politician? An aetheist?
I dont know.......
My advise is this.... lets try keeping our religions to ourselves, huh? Stop trying to outdo eachother. None of it makes any sense anymore. You are ALL fighting over an imaginary freind. And if you keep fighting all the time then sooner or later an adult will come along and STOP you fighting and then you wont be ALLOWED an imaginary freind at all.
I have not tried to sound sarcastic or belittleing and that was not my intention.
It was just an opinion.
Kindest regards.
Andy Baker.

What way are Atheists trying to outlaw religious freedom? Everybody's right to practice religion as they choose is protected by the first amendment. I have never seen Atheist trying to outlaw religion. Just you cannot have government trying to push one religion over another and it must remain neutral. You can have religious displays and services on any private property including Churches and stores, just not anything government sponsored like schools.
I think Christians feel since their religion can't be taught as schools then everyone is out to get them. Really true religious freedom can only take place if government stays out of it.

I don't think there are many atheists who would want to outlaw all religious freedom. Whilst we don't believe in a god, we do have strong feelings about people's right to believe. After all, I would like to respect my non-belief, the least I can do is return that courtesy.
I think Icarus makes a valid point about keeping church and state seperate; here in the UK it's not such a hot topic but I agree that countries should have a secular constitution.

You are mistaken sweety it is not atheists but rather religion that curbs freedom. The pope is on record as saying that the greatest social threat today is from the reality of Humanism the truth that all men are equal and stem from one prehistoric ancestor in Africa. All religious leaders know that when men accept this fact (as they did one day have to accept that the earth is infact round and is NOT the centre of the Universe) then we will realise that this stupid head-chopping and flying planes into buildings is daft.
For various reasons in History to curb the natural state of man which is freedom, the notion of an all-powerful being and the fallacy of an afterlife or heaven was created to control all people. Simply answer me this, ignoring the sinners and unbelievers, would an all powerful being really let millions of children die from hunger or let the innocent suffer in any way? If your reply is yes then there is no hope for you... nor perhaps SALVATION ;-)

There are atheists here, but whether they want to emulate the OHare woman and try to ban all religion I have not heard. The first amendment guarantees freedom of religion. Surely no person or group can say no one is free to exercise that right, at least in private.

I am an agnostic verging on an atheist but it does not mean that i believe people's religious rights should be taken away fromthem. I think every one has a right to believe in whatever they chose, whether it be islam, christianity, hinduism, atheism etc

I consider myself a humanist; not an atheist; but semantics and their interpretation aside; never in my wildest dreams would I consider such a Draconian, totalitarian act.
Every person has their own rights and responsibilities. Freedom to practice (any) religion, or not is part of a human bill of rights.

nah, those don't exist. atheists are at the mercy of religious freedom just like christians. what if the religion chosen is scientology? then we're both f*cked.
so no, that's not the point. atheists just want public officials when they're working to not be bragging about their affiliation. whatever they do on their own time is their own business. but our government should not endorse any religion.

Many non-believers would prosicute, and some do, Christians if given the chance....Though they seem not to realise, without Christians, they'd have very little freedom, and would be in constint harm of attack.
Eleven a thirteen, eh?Can be a tough time for a mother to deal with.
I'm thirteen and one of the most annoying people my family has ever met....
Best of wishes to you on raising your kids...
I hope they follow in your footsteps as a Good Christian, and don't become as annoying as i....
Though being so can be pretty fun.^_^
