It can only be accurate if all terrorist threats are known, what do you think...

No, not a bit. I think the media attention to this latest threat is blown WAY out of proportion because it's an election year in the US. I'm not saying the threat is not real, only saying the threat is not as much as a threat as the Republicans would have us believe. The terror level ALWAYS gets raised right around election time. Makes people scared and when people are scared, they vote Republican.

Well, it's a bit like asking if your anti-virus software is up to date. As soon as new protection is issued, hackers crack it the next day. The terror threat indicator is a nice way of reassuring the public but nothing more. You can't stop people that want to die for their cause. Intelligence reports can block some terrorist attacks, but most of the time you only know they're going to do something when it's too late.

It's a stupid scheme. If I was a terrorist, when the terror threat was labelled as 'low', that'd be the time when people weren't vigilant and it'd be the perfect time to strike.
We should be on our guard all the time and report our suspicions no matter how silly they seem.

not very but better than nothing. really it just allows governments to appear they are doing something useful. it also depends on the quality of the intelligence. it may offer some protection against known groups that are watched but none against the lone terrorist. lets be honest anyone can make a bomb, there is loads of info on making explosives out of household chemicals.

it seems a bit weird to declare the threat critical AFTER they've discovered the plot, arrested loads of people and put loads of security measures in place .... surely the threat was greater BEFORE they did all these things????
