Depends where you live. If you live in England, like me, then religion's influence in real life is minimal. If you live in Pakistan then it governs pretty much every aspect of your life.

Of course. Just about all wars have been in the name of some god, or because some disagreement in religious preference.. People like to focus of the good of religion, and try to make you forget the horrible atrocities that have been done in its name against those who didn't believe in the same thing. I hate to pick on Christians, but they truly are the worst. Look back through their History, every single generation thought what they believed in at the time was so right and undeniable, each generation did something horrible in its own way and felt justified for doing it. We now all agree that they were doing was wrong in the past, but what possibly do you think Christians can be doing now that is wrong, that we won't collectively agree on until 50-100 years from now? And you know it will happen, will we say, those Christians were so wrong the way they were prejudice against gay people. Or all those Christians who declared it was the Apocalypse were so far off.

Loaded question, and I'm not sure what your intent is here because I can see this heading more than one direction.
If you mean personally, no I don't feel that this influence is wrong. I feel that religion is a guiding force that defines our ethics. How we practice and implement them (in word and deed) is where people go wrong, or right. It all depends upon how we treat people who disagree with our set of beliefs.
And the practice and implementation is where it all goes wrong.
I feel that religion needs to be protected. I'm not saying to force it down people's throats. But I have concerns about many of the posts I read that seem to think that religion is evil. It's not the religion itself as there are good and bad people in all religions (although for the more violent ones, I have a hard time coming up with "good" people in those, but I'm sure there are somplace). It's all about the actions and deeds.

Answer this first: "Do you think agnosticism and atheism's influence is given much more importance than it actually has?"
Answering your question:
No! There's a book called something like "The most influencing 100 people over history". Guess who was put first (By an American mathematician)....Muhammad (pbuh) The prophet of Islam! Religion affected many people's lives thourghout history either positively or negatively. It's impossible to deny the effects that resulted from Christianity and Islam, and caused new generations and civilizations to emerge.

Look at all the people that have died in the name of religion in the past. I couldn't even begin to guess at the total. If it is something that people are willing to kill or be killed in the name of, I would say the importance of religion is understated.

crusades , jihads and general religous wars all things are linked becuase all things are one and when something happens 10,00 miles away from you it still effects you in some way. religion effects you in all aspects of your life weither you recognize it or not and it was a part of you before you were born and it will be after you die becuase human existance is melded with the soul or the part of man that is immortal and that effects everthing forever but not in one way nor the other. so is it a matter of influence or action.
