Finding some sort of cover is better than nothing. Depending on what the fuze setting of the grenade is (0-5 seconds, depends on type, quality of munitions, etc) you don't really have much time to actually run. That exposes you to more of the concussion and fragmentation, increasing the chances of lethality.

Best thing actually is to throw something to cover the grenade to absorb the fragmentation and a lot of the concussion; then lie down, preferably behind some cover. There's about a 5 degree "dead zone" from the base of the ground spreading around the grenade, where the fragmentation is least likely to hit you (explosive force vs ground = most of it channeled straight up in a hemisphere).

Above all, don't kick it, unless it's right there and you have no alternative. That just exposes you to more of the blast, and could actually set the grenade off quicker, depending on the setting.

Much too general a question - - - in a confined space topple a shelf or table on top of it - - - kicking is problematical it could go and there goes the foot - - - actually if you have good knowledge about the type of grenade then there are best options for ducking/running - - - sometimes death or injury can be adverted by turning a corner or dropping flat to the ground - - - Adolf H survived a bomb blast because he was on the outside of a thick oak table leg - - - the grenade sized object exploded shredding those on the other side of the thick slab of oak - - - Hitler merely suffered a ruptured ear drum and severe shock. If you are into being a hero then throwing yourself on a grenade is considered cool. Rumor has it that a brave Marine in Vietnam instinctively clenched grenade between thighs thus blasting away the family jewels and a lot of the plumbing yet survived the injury thus earning a Congressional Medal of Honor plus other medals for bravery at the expense of peeing into a bag the rest of his life. Peace.

Kicking a grenade can be more dangerous as in panic you may kick it to a direction where it causes more harm.

Running is also not an advisable option as the pallots of the grenade spread in the air when it explodes. Instead try to take the closest cover and be as close to the ground as possible.

If you keep your wits awake, try to put some object like a helmet, a drum or some heavy but hollow object on it so that it does not spread the pallots in a large area.

I am in the military and I was never taught to jump on a grenade. Who says that. What a freak. But situation depends. If someone else is there i would tackle them and cover them, if i liked the person of course. Whatever-dumb question.

it all depends on the situation. i would never kick it though. i would not run either, i would dive if anything because the schrapnel of the grenade most likely would not travel parallel with the ground as much as in any other direction. if there were others around the best thing to do is to shout a warning like "GRENADE!!!!" and if you have enough courage or are brave enough dive on top of it yourself, better one gone that more.

it depends really if as it was about to land and I kicked it, I could possibly hurt my toes, and then the grenade wouldnt get that far and i wouldnt be able to run.... so to save all that I would probaby just run.... find my own grenades and throw them back ;)

Well, depending on who's next to me, I'd have different choices.

If there were people I loved near it, I'd probably jump on it, to minimize the blast to them.

If it was people I hated, I'd throw them on the granade, to minimize the injuries to me.

If it were in a group of strangers, I'd run like heck, pushing people out of my way. If they get hit by it, it's sad, but I lived. Everyone's on their own in this case.

I would never kick it. It might be an impact granade, and go off when I kick it.

i personally would yell "GRENADE" and jump on top of it. that is what i was taught in bootcamp and throughout my military career. and another thing you don't have much time to react you technically have about 2 seconds to decide what you are going to do.

I'd kick or throw it away. I can't run as fast as I can throw.
