It's possible -- and scary. Many times, I've met a really nice, kind person and then all of a sudden, he or she says a racist statement. Intelligent racists are even scarier. I've traditionally equated racism with stupidity. Somehow an educated, intelligent racist is even more disturbing.

Yes it's possible. Just don't expect that person to be genuinely nice to the group of people that they have deemed inferior to themselves. I see it all the time. A person can be a good old boy and be the nicest guy around to his cronies and their kind but let a person of a different race enter the picture, that warm friendliness turns to cold hatred. The same thing goes for a dude from around the way. If you're one of his homies, you're cool and there's nothing he won't do to help you out. But if someone from another race comes around, watch that same nice dude get a mean mug and wrinkles across his forehead. I'm nice but my niceness is dependent upon what I think of you. If I think you're a genuinely kind person who keeps it real, you will receive the same kindness from me. If I have scoped you out and determined that you're faking the funk, I play right along with you but I keep my eyes on you knowing that you might be out to get me. It's a crazy world and this is just how it is from my perspective.

No they can't be a "nice Person". When you have preset hate in your heart for people based on anything foreign to you, you can't be nice. I really can't stand it when people think that certain types of people should act a certain way based on their prejudice. And it goes as far as assuming that people that are "like you" feel the same way you do. Just because I;m white doesn't mean that you can tell me a racist joke and expect me to laugh. Don't assume anything about anyone based on creed, religion, ethnic background, or any other element.

Everyone, to a degree, is somewhat of a bigot. I haven't met one person in my life who isn't leery of at least one type of people who is different from themselves.

That being said, doesn't necessarily mean that everyone is not a "nice" or a "good" person, but everyone - to some degree, no matter how small - does have some bigotry or prejudice within themselves.

...oh yes! I've seen it many times. It's mostly ignorance. When I was a child, I remember people talking about "the orientals" down the street that owned the supermarket...as far as I know, oriental is the rug! People need education -- cross cultural education to close the gaps of misperception. This would make the world a happier place, for sure. ;)

Yes, absolutely.
Biggotry and Racism is most often instilled in children as they grow up. Children only learn from what they see and hear, so if they are brought up in an environment that displays these types of attitudes and feelings they just follow along trying to do what they think is right.
Unfortunatly, these thought processes are hard to change after they reach adult life.

Well, often bigotry is due to ignorance. So yes, it's possible to be both nice & ignorant.

But personally, I don't judge bigot's to be nice, based on the bigotry.

Of course. They're a nice person to their own race, but not so nice to other races. For most racists, all they do is make racial jokes and ignore other races, not go out and actively be mean to other races.
