Here in Oz the yellow ones are Swede and the white ones are turnips.

Completely different textures and flavours. Swede lovely mashed with butter and white pepper. Turnips better added cut up in soups and stews. Unedible (flavourwise) as a veg in its own right.

there is no difference between them both they are from the same family.
Turnip is known as the white swede
turnip is known as a yellow turnip both are from native sweden then introduced to scotland the only difference is their apperance and taste.

Iv often pondered on that question.. I think it a north/south divide. I'm a Northerner living down south.. I call it Turnip, my girlfriend looks at me bemused

i think swedes are paler with a thinner skin, turnips have very thick skin and orange flesh.........isn't a turnip a mangle worsel or something down south
