I wear goggles with prescription lenese (-7.0 in both eyes), for snorkelling & they work fine. It's a bit of a pain that I have to have a container to carry my glasses once I get to the beach. But I'm short-sighted enough I have to wear glasses to get to the beach.
But the other choice is to get contacts, with a regular mask.

It would not be a good idea to wear regular glasses for swimming. Prescription face masks can be ordered and purchased through some pro dive shops.

It's bad for the lenses - especially if they're not glass - and it's bad for the arms and hinges. You can buy swimming goggles in your prescription strength - talk to your optometrist for details.
