he and the girl are impossible but why does he insist to find out if it is her...does that mean he loves her too?

Just ask the girl who he thinks it is, "did you by chance send me a message?"
Then, he'll know! But usually people don't say I love you by text. At least not the first time. But if you talk face to face, you should be able to tell from body language how she feels.

The guy can make out a list of who he thinks it is. Then try to get a good idea if it is who he thinks. His interest is already sparked. It could possibly means that he likes her too. But how will he know (that he loves her too) if he doesn't know who sent the message?
