I will be attending a language school and have the option to base myself in either Florence or Rome. This will be my first trip to Italy so I'm not sure where to stay.

I would say Florance because it is a nice region and you are close to Rome, Naples, and Venice for day trips. Florance is also really beautiful and surounded by lots of nice countryside if you need a break from the tourists. Rome is a beautiful but hectic city. I think it would be hard to live there.

in case you're doing an over view of Italy - you should to evaluate some days much less in Rome and a few days greater in Florence. Florence must be somewhat seen as Florence city or Florence - Tuscany. I consistently inspire pals and kin to stay contained in the nation-state so as that they might get a diverse sense of Italy and Italians. a holiday condo domicile, or an agriturism grants a surprising possibility tochronic around and circulate to the smaller cities, markets, and do a sprint exploring on your individual. to no longer point out the undeniable fact that Tuscany grants a extensive array of vineyards!

Do what you feel like, both are lovely cities, Rome is bigger than Florence, but both cities have a lot to offer

It's a matter of your temperament. As I can see my answer will be opposite to the others.I was many times in whole Italy and I'll say ROME without no shadow of doubt.

I have been to both and Florence is much better for everything, history, shops, social life and buildings.

Hope you enjoy your language school. Ciao.
