Yes there are adults with ADD/ADHD. Most of the time they were children that have grown up. It is recognized by the time a child is 7 years old. Depending upon where you grew up, it is possible that you just got overlooked. There is also vitamin therapy that works well several are on it including my 33 year old nephew. If you're interested I'll tell you what to take and how much. No side effects. :) Otherwise, you may need to see several psychiatrist for a prescription.

Yes the medical community accepts that this condition exists. I know you live in Britain, but the American Psychology Association has a definition for it in their diagnosis guide, the DSM-IV.
I am 26, I was diagnosed ADD-inattentive about five months ago although I've been living with it all my life.
A good website is www.adders.org. I think there's lots of stuff for people in the UK on it.
Your first step is to get to a psychologist for diagnosis. If you choose to get drug treatment (highly recommended), then your therapist will recommend a psychiatrist.
When going for your initial consultation, make sure you feel like you were evaluated fully. They will take a case history and inventory, but there is no blood work or anything involved. Ask questions. Although it is a somewhat common disorder (about 3-5% of the general population have it), there is much misinformation being spread about it so make sure that you get all your questions answered. Try and find a specialist in ADHD issues.
Congrats on identification. This will help out tremendously. Good luck.

The DSM-IV (Diagnostic & Statistical Manual, 4th Edition) is the standard used in diagnosing psychological disorders, and both ADD and adult ADHD are a part of this manual. So yes, the medical profession accepts this condition.
See a psychologist in your area.

The majority of kids diagnosed as having ADD or ADHD do not grow out of the condition. Ignore idiots who say it's made up because it isn't - there is still an awful lot of ignorance regarding the disorder. I teach kids with ADD/ADHD and my other half has got it, however, he's just completed a degree and is just about my favourite person on this planet despite his eccentricities!
A good website we use is: About ADD
http://add.about.com
I think that's the right link! Good Luck and remember - it's not a life sentence - it can be fun!

Yes! I live in the States but I wasn't tested until I was in my therapist's office and she gave me the test right there! I was 21 and realized I've had it my whole life. If they only knew all those years ago that I suffered from it..... I wouldn't have thought I was lazy, stupid or crazy.
I have read a lot about AADD because I have more problems concentrating than in ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder).
I suggest you get tested ASAP! My doctor and family and friends told me that after I was treated for AADD, I began to be more motivated and productive in my day!

I AM NOT SURE HOW YOU WOULD GO ABOUT BEING TESTED IN THE UK. HERE IN THE STATES IT IS BEST TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH A PSYCHIATRIST AND ASK FOR AN AAD/ADHD EVALUATION. THE MEDICAL PROFESSION HERE ACCEPTS THIS CONDITION AND TREATS IT. YOU SHOULD RESEARCH A RELATIVELY NEW NON-STIMULATE DRUG FOR ADULTS WITH THIS INFLICTION CALLED STRATTERA. I HAVE BEEN TAKING THIS AT A DOSE OF 40MG 2X DAILY 7AM AND 1PM FOR ABOUT 4 YEARS AND I HAVE GOTTEN TREMENDOUS RESULTS WITH VERY FEW SHORT LASTING SIDE EFFECTS IE DRY MOUTH AND LITTLE APPETITE LOSS (ALSO MY 2 FRONT TOP TEETH WENT NUMB FOR ABOUT 5 DAYS) NOTHING BUT CLEAR THINKING AND GOOD CONCENTRATION NOW. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU.

Yes, I have ADD and I am 23. I would suggest going to AdultADD.com
thehealthcenter.com
oneADDplace.com
and taking their self-tests, printing them out, and taking them to your doctor or any doctor. If any doctor doesn't accept that this condition really does exsist in adults then they obviously are not educated enough and are a complete moron. You might have to go to a few different docs before you find one that will work for you. I take 40mgs of Adderall a day... I find it hard to function normally without it. But there are dozens of different stimulants for ADD/ADHD... you just have to find the one that's made for you. ;) Good luck man!
