The best software is nothing but DFX Plug-in. You can get it from http://www.fxsound.com/ and this really works. Trust me. This has different versions for WinAmp and Media Player and many more. BTW, if you find this answer is the best answer, please make it as the BEST :)

you can install new codecs and that could help.
there are many applications that instal those codecs
