Because sometimes, he really wants our attention and until we hurt bad enough, we won't turn to him - it's like we save him for our last resort - but he wants to be our first resort - so it's not God that is cruel - it is us that is rebellious of heart and not listening to him in the first place. We are the ones to be accountable for rejecting him - not him accountable to us for being cruel.

God could be called cruel because it has its roots in a tribal war-god of the ancient Hebrews. The OT describes God as egocentric, tyrannical, arbitrary, and unpredictable. The ideal war-god for a people in a very hostile environment. The commands and actions of the OT God and the God in Revelations would be considered monstrous if any human commanded them...but Christians give Biblegod a free pass because they've been indoctrinated to do so all their lives.

Remember: War is peace. Ignorance is strength. Hate is love. Death is life.

God isn't cruel. Cruelty and suffering happen because of human sinfulness and the devil. God made us as free beings, and thus allows us to do what we decide, even if it does allow atrocities.
Furthermore, hell is not cruel. God gives us a life to repent and be saved and if someone chooses to reject Him, why should God back down? If God did not punish those who disobeyed Him, people would accuse Him of being weak. So it's lose lose, people will always criticize Him.

No God is not cruel at all, but sometimes he seems. Look when a child try to catch and want to play with fire you stop him strictly, that time the child's feeling are the same the think you a cruel but infect you are kind to him.

I GIVE YOU IN DIFFERENT WAY, PLEASE READ BELOW :-

Is God just and merciful?
A. ~ Concluding from our present judicial system these two attributes may seem to oppose each other since Justice consists in giving a person the equitable amount of pleasure or pain ~ neither more nor less ~ according to the nature of his deeds, while Mercy consists in letting the offender go unpunished or with a light sentence. The two attributes of God, differ in a name only; the object served by justice is the same as accomplished by mercy.
Certainly the idea of inflicting punishment, through justice, is to prevent people from committing crimes, that would enable them to be free from pain and misery, later on in life or next birth (reincarnation), which is quite the object of the Merciful. When the punishment does not fit the crime, there can be no Mercy for the innocent, as the criminal is allowed in society again to give pains and suffering to many righteous and law-abiding people.

It will be an act of Mercy to keep an ominous offender in prison or put him to death and at the same time Justice would have abounded. By the same method of reasoning it will be unjust of God to forgive sins no matter how puny or capacious it might be. To condemn me with Hitler (Germany) and Pol Pot (Cambodia) who have committed mass atrocities, to hell for all eternity, for which my only malfeasance is not accepting Christianity or Islam, as my faith is gravely an injustice. Such injustices can never be from a just God.

God is not cruel. God is good, God is just.
The bad things that happen to people are caused by sin, whose origin lies in Satan.
Satan is also known as "The Father of Lies". One of those lies is "God is cruel"

No, He's not. How can someone who loves you so much be cruel? He loves you, He even died for you remember? He's sad for thinking that about Him, but He will never change. His love will never change no matter what you think. God bless you.
