Cover the windows really well, so you can sleep during the day. Play a radio or the TV quietly, so it drowns out the daytime noises. Let your neighbors know (if they are nice) that you sleep during the day, so they will try to be more quiet when you are asleep. Try to sleep at the same time every day, so your body will get used to going to sleep during the day.
I've worked graveyard shift for quite some time, and it worked out best not to mess with my sleep schedule on my days off. It was tempting to try to reverse things so I could stay up all day and sleep at night (like a normal person for once!) but I would start work after the weekend and be completely exhausted.
Hope this helps!

I work overnights too, and on my days off I sleep at night time so I can get good rest. On the days I work its a little harder. You need to prepare you're body for sleep, not just say well its time to go to bed. At least an hour relaxing with no music or tv or computer stimulus will hopefully help. Take a hot bath and maybe write down your thoughts from the day or plans for tomorrow.

When I used to work midnight shifts, I would simply take a short nap instead of a full sleep. Even take a couple naps. This will refresh you yet leave you sleepy when evening comes. Taking any type of drugs and or alcohol is a bad idea as the side effects are worse than not sleeping.

i work midnights and i find the best way to go to sleep is an eye mask and to turn on a loud fan to drown out any disturbing noise also if you read a lil bit that may make u a lil sleepy i also like to take a nice hot shower it relaxes all ur muscles and prepares u for sleep.

As a new mom, I have to sleep when the baby sleeps, sleepy or not. I use a sleep mask and memory foam ear plugs. Lavender air freshener helps, too. Basically, set the mood for sleep.

Try benedryl-it is over the counter and will not knock you out for a long time-I would stay away from prescription sleeping pills as they are addicting.

Benadryl, Marijuana, and/or Whiskey. Counting sheep won't work.
