I read this on a website (answers.com) tonight and I thought it rang true for me. Do you think this is the case for you?
"Certain stressful processes during gestation (pregnancy) or at the time of birth may increase the chance for a person to develop TS. Other non-genetic factors that may predispose a person to TS include: severe psychological trauma, recurrent daily stresses, extreme emotional excitement...."

I was thinking the especially the severe psychological trauma part. My parents divorced when I was 3 and their relationship was violent. Then I lived with daily stress caused by a stepfather who was too harsh. I am always trying to get to the bottom of the root cause. I have always thought my case of TS was "brought out" because of stress.

I am not asking for personal stories unless you want to share one. I just want to know if you have Tourette's do you think this could be the cause of your case? I hope this question is not too personal.

Nope. Touretts is neurological and you are born with it. Now, mind you, stress can increase tics.
