As some have already pointed out there is no "hai" in the phrase "I love you". "Hai" comes from the verb "hona" which means "to be". It is pronounces like a mixture between hay and high. BUT if it is in the plural there is a nasal ending to it. That's why some people write it as such "HaiN"

"Hai" in Japanese means yes and is pronounced the same way as you say "hi" in English. I imagine they are pronouced the same way being India is right around asian ground..
