The guidelines for take the MAP have changed recently from withing 72 hours to within 120 hours (5 days). The most commonly reported side effects other than psychological and becoming emotional labile are nausea and vomitting. This is important! If you do throw up after taking the pill then it is important to document the tiem between taking the pill and vomitting. Check to see if you can see the pill in the vomitus. If you held down the pill for over an hour than there is nothing to worry about. But anything less or seeing the pill in the vomitus would require getting an new MAP from your doctor. But remember typically individuals throw up since they have absorbed the medication, and it is working. So typically throwing up will not affect the efficacy of the MAP. But if you gagged on something and threw the pill up then it is important to see your doctor as soon as possible.

The most common side-effects of the morning-after pill are headache, nausea, painful breasts and irregular vaginal bleeding.

One very important side-effect of the morning-after pill, or 'post-coital contraception', is pregnancy. This is more likely if you waited more than 24 hours after unprotected sex before seeking medical advice, or if sex took place more than once.

Until fairly recently, the standard advice was that the morning-after pill could be taken up to 72 hours after sex, but recent research has shown a significant chance of the pill failing to prevent a pregnancy occurring if taken at this time.

This is why doctors now advise that the morning-after pill should be given as soon as possible, preferably within 24 hours.

cheers :)

The sooner you take it, the better the chances it will work. I've had it twice, when condoms broke. The first time I became very ill - throwing up constantly, extreme nausea. Not many people have this problem. The second time, I was given a different, progesterone-only form and was fine. It depends on your own body - most people have the first type.
