i feel respected. there are reasons as to why women are asked to cover their hair etc. the private part of women (hair, legs etc) belong to themselves and their husbands. im now so used to covering my hair that i feel weird when im not. and i think men treat me with respect now that im dressing like a modest woman. i m happy with the head cover and everything.. i do all things that christian women or hindu women do. nothing is different between u and me juz because i cover my hair.
ohh come on, islam treats women fairly. so do other religions. of course they can use computer, duhh i wear jeans too.

I am a muslim but not a female. This question is not only for women to answer, even a muslim male can answer it!! The basic concept is to cover your body, so that ur shape and curves dont make a public show!! Women in Islam should have their arms, middle body parts and legs completely covered!! It doesnt matter if they wear pants or jeans or traditional dresses!! Hands, feet and face can show without any problem. The women who cover their face do it on their own will its not written in the Holy Quran that women have to cover their face!! It's more of a Tradition than an Islamic rule. Even nuns in Christianity cover their heads. Its no big deal. Islam gave identity and status to women. If a women covers herself completely, only revealing her eyes, then how can a man decide if that women is his wife, daughter, mother, sister or a complete stranger?? Hope u get my point!! u can mail me on leo_7_2001@yahoo.com for detailed discussion!!

Dear friends, many of you perhaps got the wrong idea. The answer is, according to my experience, yes, Muslim women with Hijaab do enjoy a good degree of respect from others, in comparison with those not in Hijaab. Besides, the idea that virtuous Muslim women are not allowed to use computers is totally wrong. The fact is that their number is relatively small.

I'm happy to wear hijab, Islam is really wise of ordering women to use hijab... Hijab make me feel safe. You know hijab is good for our health too... Maybe sometime, others stare me with a strange sight. But i love to wear hijab, i'm not worried about what people think... Surely, if you think you're right, keep on your way...

dear sister,
im veryglad to anwer such a good question in 1st place
first of all u should know that hijab should be in ur heart. just wearing a peice of 5meter long cloth does no good until one's heart is pure of all evil sexual thoughts.
i am from a chineese-indian muslim origin and i asked my father to get me a hijab for me when i was 9 years old, now that was a shock to all my family, as most singaporean muslims just cover their head and wear modest attires.
i studied in an irish presentation church convent all my life and people at school respected me for following my faith and for my beleifs.
i feel that when i choose a hijab, then the hijab automatically tells the non-mehram men that he is unlawful 4 me. so naturally the guys distance themselves.
i really feel respected than compared to rest of my freinds who wear clothes that are revealing and attract men. well by the way wat will i do wif all those men i attracted in first place.
u tell me when my freind (whos wearing a mini skirt and tube tops) and i (preferring the hijab) walk down the road, who will men turn back to look at? without a doubt my freind, isnt it? so that says that men respect me for who i am.
in islam a woman is allowed to study and work and interact with men for any social, political and economical events. but unnecessary inter mingling, u may also very well know leads to wat.
well people may say muslim men are perverts for making women wear purdah, but infact they r trying to gaurd their mothers, sisters, wives and daughters from the evil abusive eyes of people wif dirty thoughts.
i feel very secure in a hijab. although there have been people who told me i carry bombs in my hijab. but its ok. i forgive them.
after all thats wat islam, Allah and muhammed(pbuh) taught me. to be patient.
well i guess that across the wold all men want a woman who will gaurd their chastity and who r modest. no man wants a ***** for himself.

Hi Debra,
I know I am probably not going to surprise you by saying that this is probably not the best place to pose such a question.
It would be better for you to go to an Islamic forum to ask the question. I do not necessarily recommend this site, but it could be helpful to you:

With you be peace
