Some of the arts are close to what they were 100 years ago like Karate (Japanese not American), Judo, Hapkido, Kung-Fu.
Ithers have changed a great deal because of tournament fighting like Tae-Kwon-Do and Ju-Jitsu.
Others are pretty new arts like Aikido.
Are any of them exactly the same as they were 100 years ago? No.
Are any of them the same as they were when they were first done? No.

No they are not.
The martial arts are all products of their time and its combat requirements.
They were in my opinion all supposed to evolve as these requirements changed
some have and others have stood still.
Who invented the punch ?
Answer none of them but application of the technique should be equal to environment and situation.
All martial arts are worthy but with traditional arts that have not moved on almost become like religion students believe or have faith in their techniques but have no real proof.
Many modern arts revolve around sport and competition they test their techniques but in a rules governed bout so does this make them better?
Other arts concentrate on street and go through drills based on a variety of attack possibilities. Most of the time these are practised with passive partners so do they really work?
The answer as Ive said before is every thing works and nothing works its all in the moment weather your training comes to you instinctively.
They are all different it depends what you are looking for.

in theory yes. Both are all about mind over matter. But in how they fight no far from it. modern martial artists (mixed martial artists) have far more realistic ways to deal with the enemy.
