Physical - First, as I am sure you have already heard, the amount of greenhouse gases collecting in the atmosphere is creating an effect (global warming) that is heating the planet (I think the rate is about one degree every decade). The sulfur given off from many different process combines with different molecules in the atmosphere (H2O) to form H2SO4 (sulfuric acid) and the nitrogen from man made fertilizer forms nitric acid. Both fall to the planet as acid rain. For general air pollutants, many cause an increase in the effects of asthma, allergies, ect. I believe some may even increase lung cancer (not just cigarette smoke, though I do count it as an air pollutant). Moving back to the acid rain. As it lands, it changes the pH (percent hydrogen) of the land and water habitats. Water - If the pH of the water changes too dramatically, the aquatic life will no longer find that area to be a suitable habitat, and cannot live there. If a key organism (i.e. certain algae/plants) dies, fish that feed on it will starve, and fish that eat those fish will starve, ect. Another factor of water pollution is the way it affects the life around it. For example, the increased number of diseases people could contract from being near an open sewer.
Economic - regulations to cut down on pollution can reduce profits from many business (though, keep in mind how much they are making in the long run, and that gov't subsidies pay for part). There is also a regulation on the placement of factories, ect. To reduce air pollution, future businesses may utilize wind, solar, ect. power.

The sources of water pollution I can identify with is the uncontrollable way our water system has been set up. There is so much stuff in our water that we are unable to drink the water here. I live in a small town of maybe 1500 people. Daisetta, TX is probably not even on the maps. This is a severe problem for residents that live here and unable to afford water like most of us have to do. Many people here use the water due to the fact that we have to pay so much for water ussage here. It is not common for people to have black tea or really dark rice. I think that when I get in the bathtub I need to rerun my water. Most of the time I will not take a bath, just jump in the shower. The reason we have such nasty water is because our city did not want to pay the extra money in order for the well to be dug a lot deeper. I think that we all have filters on our systems or just purchase water for drinking and cooking. The climate and other topographical factors that intensify air pollution and help reduce air pollution are as follows: When it is hot outside the air is really clean or so it seems. The real deal is the hotter it is outside the more air pollution is in the air. This reason is due to the fact that there is more chemicals exposed to higher temps and more chemical release is exposed to our air. When it rains the air is also seemingly clean. This is more so than on a hot day. When it is raining out the air is less polluted by chemicals but more polluted due to acis rain and other chemicals comming into the air with the rain..

Well they adapt to there enviroment. Basicaly we are forcing an evolution and the human race may or may not make the change fast enoth to survive the changes in climate and air / water quality. But I see it this way... We are making machiens left and right and covering the earth with them at some point life is gona start taking are lead and act more and more machien like imo. Basicaly we are turning the earth into what most would consider hell. Thats the physical effects... As for the economic effects well in a world where resorces are hard to come by there is war so enjoy... Unless you dare to be bold enoth to stop it...

The question you should be asking is: what is the socio-economic impact of the world's pollution on people and the environment? Think that one over.

well, smokestacks mean we have less pure oxygen running to our brains, which causes us to become lightheaded, and ask four-pronged questions about nature, to drunk strangers, online, at 2:30 in the morning, on a forum most often used as a fart joke/relationship column.
Then no one seriously answers, and we become confused because of all the smoke, and go to bed, and then listen to man the manimal rap king the next morning on myspace, cuz he's so hott!
