I am trying to get our 21 month old ready for the "big girl bed" and am having a hard time. We have a 10 monthold as well so getting sleep is already rare. Any advice as to how to make the transition easier?

awww...time for the big girl bed huh...

you need to convince her that the big girl bed is a huge step and mommy sleeps in a big girl bed so she can be like mommy...is it possible to sleep close by or even with her in it a few times or just til she falls asleep.

*sigh* i can't wait to have me a kid...just not a daughter noooo way...cuz the bf's would be in site...and can't have that....

so congrats...and i'm sorry...hehe I can't imagine havin a daughter

When we moved my daughter into her big girl bed, we went shopping for a bed. We choose to get a twin size bed, that way she can have it for a while. We put a plastic cover over the mattress to prevent accidental stains or smells. We then took our daughter shopping for a whole new room, sheets, blankets, paints, window treatments, the whole 9 yards. Then when it came time to paint and decorate, we included her in everything. My daughter loves to listen to music at night so we brought her a special radio so she can listen to her music at night. The first couple nights we had a "party" in her room so that all her "friends" (stuffed animals) could pick their spot on her bed. We have a light on that she can keep on until she falls asleep too. That was when she was 2.5 years old. Now that she is 6 we dont have any problems. Also I would not suggest that you force her into the bed or try to have her sleep there when she is overly tired. Have a snack before a bath, then a bath, and then teeth/potty time, and then read a book. Give a simple hug/kiss and then walk out after the first couple nights. Also every time that she gets out of bed, take her back to it and tell her that it is bedtime, if you need to get this extreme.

Get her a cool looking toddler bed one that is fun looking like the little coop or the little princess castle. My son thought the little cozy coupe was cool he would jump into bed and I would tell him this is your big boy bed.
