It makes your eyes work harder, putting them under strain. If you do it for too long you could get a headache. Give them a bit of a break by turning on the light. If not a ceiling light, then an overhead light above the TV or Computer should help.

Regardless of lighting, you should get up and walk about for a little while every so often while using the PC. For those who do a lot of typing, it is a good idea to stretch the hands a little as well. Staring at a screen and typing continuously for an hour (or hours) at a time is not good.

It would be interesting to read a study that looked into this issue.
Personally, I found that my eyes feel slightly less comfortable when using the PC in complete darkness, although the glare from direct lighting seems worse.

My solution is to turn on a lamp across the room. I am not left in complete darkness, nor is there any glare.

yes it makes your eyes strain to see, which is probably why most people get tired while watching tv, the pupil in the eye is constantly adjusting in size to the different levels of light, so it could cause eye fatigue. That is, it makes your eyes tired and could make it temporarily harder to focus. It's not likely to cause permanent damage.

Of course it's bad. It's very bad, in fact. I don't really know why, but I think it's just a common thing. That's why parents tell us not to do it, and why we sleep at night when there is no natural light source.

As long as you don't sit too close. Keep the brightness down. Shouldn't cause any problems, but give your eyeballs a break from time to time. Every 30 mins or so.

it can be bad but not as bad as they say because the pupils get to chance the size and then they get tired faster and so thats where they start to hurt and get busted they also they get into different sizes because the source of light changes

No it isn't good for you. It puts a strain on your eyes and if you aren't wearing glasses yet, you will be.
