My siblings and I were in foster care for about a year when my father took us from our home and my mother had to provide proof that she could handle 4 kids on her own. The experience I had in foster care was great! I wasn't abused or neglected like I had been at home. We got to go to Mc Donald's and eat chicken nuggets once a week. I was in Kindergarten at the time, and my family was all in the same home. I was in foster care in Kentucky in 1985, and it was truly a great chance to escape the violence and abuse that was in my home and that we were later returned to.

That sounds like a typical response from a foster child.

Problem with it is that it means you didn't feel loved or valued growing up.

Foster kids tend to flounder when they reach adulthood. Some cities are starting mentorship programs (on a volunteer basis) to help foster kids become more successfull as adults. Cutting them loose at 18 is terrible. That's not what real families do.

If you doubt you're capable of being loved, please get counseling. I'm sure you weren't in foster care because of the environment you were in before you were a ward of the state, and you need to know how truly special you are, despite the garbage you went through.

I'll keep you in my prayers, and hope the best for you.
