You have to say "some" Americans have such an ego....
And yes your right, we are perceived around the world as egotistical.....I have to agree with you that "some American's have such an ego"...
I like to call it more like entitlement....They feel entitled to have more money, bigger houses, more stuff....etc.etc. But none of that truly brings happiness.....That is a state of mind....

We're a country of back-bending cowards, getting through a day with a wannabe ego is as simple as giving free money to anyone with the most pitiful story.

Hmm, I wonder, are you American? I'm assuming not, because of your opinion of how Americans view themselves. I don't think all Americans are extremely arrogant, but I know that many are, especially the rich ones, who believe theselves to be so much better than the rest of society because their driving around a nice car and live in a wonderful palace. Well anyways, that was a good way to earn my two points. Off to answer more questions...

Yes, people are envious of America. Americans fought for their freedoms and their rights, and will always do so.... It is not ego that fuels Americans, it is pride.... pride in what our ancestors created and pride in what we have managed to maintain.
The world is envious because we are readily willing to give our lives for our country that our children might enjoy what we enjoy. Great Britain is one of the few other countries whose people will do the same.
Yes, pride not ego, is what sustains America. We openly admit our mistakes and try to rectify them if possible. Bad leaders are voted out of office if their supporters are not too blind to truth.
The great majority of Americans are not communists nor Islamo-facists.... again, pride... we are proud of not being blind brain washed sheep.
Those who continually call America bad or wrong are BLIND SHEEP.

That isn't true...that is like saying all Canadians are Eskimo's but they even like to be called eskimos because eskimo means "people who eat raw fish" they like to be called inuit which means "people of the land" or something similar to that.
btw, Toronto means meeting place

It's only because we have our legions of illegal immigrant servants to order around and beat for three cents an hour.

That is so stereotypical. Not ALL Americans are egotistical. That's like saying all Cubans are communists, which isn't true.
