Hard shifts have so many sources. Your engine may be running improperly or needing a tune-up which can give your transmission ecu a wrong shift point. You may be needing a new throttle position sensor due to improper load input to your transmission ecu. etc etc.

The only reason why your TRANSMISSION would shift hard is improper fluid pressure. This may require big diagnosis time.

no, the engine will not cause hard shifts, the question is did you or somebody else have the transmission rebuilt? if so the hard shifts are due to the updates for transmission service, the auto manufacturers realized that a transmission that shifts very lightly will cause more damage to the clutches and cause premature transmission failure. light shift will wear or burn the clutch material due to slippage, where a hard shift insures a quick lock up on the clutches and less wear on the clutch material in a automatic transmission

Torque convertors can cause hard shifts. If the engine is tuned properly the engine is probably not the problem. Check Transmission fluid level, If the fluid is caramel colored and thick have the fluid and filter change at a reputible transmission shop. They will also check transmission function. Good Luck

Transmission. Change the fluid and filter (you will probably have to drop the pan underneath the vehicle to reach the filter). This might stop the rough shifting, but if not you need to get the transmission repaired before it goes clear out and costs you big bucks.

yes, to a point. if the engine as a large load it can make the transmission shift harder... a fan clutch that dont wanna dis engage is a perfect way to look at it... dodge it terrible for that. and i had a blazer that did the same .

If the engine is laboring or running poorly (i.e. when the air conditioning is running), it can cause the transmission to shift more abruptly.

not very likely change the transmission fluid AND filter. if automatic the bands may need to be adjusted or clutches replaced. if manual check clutch fluid level and wear on clutch plate.

If the engine misses, has no power, like poor fuel pressure, or exhaust blocked, it can.
