General Motors, Ford Motor Company, Daimler Chrysler...
They are the three big motor companies, and being based out Detroit makes them the "Detroit Big Three" when talking about big motor companies... which can include German, Italian, European, Japanese, Asian, and other automakers

The "big three" is General Motors, (Buick, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Pontiac, Saturn, GMC, Oldsmobile, etc,). Mopar, (Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth, AMC/Jeep, Eagle,) and Fomoco, (Ford, Mercury, Lincoln.) That was the original 3, but with all the mergers and close downs, the names are changing daily.

Is DaimlerChrysler still considered one of the big three? Yes, the Detroit stuff is still there but the executive decisions now come from Germany.

I consider it to be a German auto manufacturer.
