(hot and bothered, too)

Occasionally when plauing a movie, sound and image will freeze at exactly the same spot on disk. From which no FF or any fwd command will work, except restart, but then it will lock up in the same exact spot once again.

Common sense sez it's a flaw on disk surface, but there no visible trace of such a thing.

What-to-do what-to-do what-to-do.

Any help ?

Thanks in advance.

Actually it's an expensive _ORIG_ bought from Amazon.com...

Hmmm..I did alcohol wipe. Result:

The "reader" now hangs-up more briefly and in spots close to the original "bump" if I can call it that.

It almost "would" seem that the invisible crud just got spread around...if that's what it is. I remain in suspended animation, my heart all a-flutter.

i have 2 dvd's that does the same thing enemy of the state & the beastmaster freeze in the same spot & i called around to studio companies & they told me it's most likely a flaw in the disc & that some dvd players can play through it & some cannot.

personally, i face this problems a few times and try to conclude that such cases happens on:
1) pirated discs
2) 2-in-1 (compressed) DVDs

Possible Reasons:
1) The optical pick-up head of your DVD unit is probably too sensitive
2) The Discs used are of lower grade

In such cases, note the time of the "stop area" and then search the DVD to the time after this stop area.

Else, you can try to read using another DVD player, or try your DVD ROM on your PC.

In extreme cases, buy a new DVD.

most likely its the layer change on the disc, the laser has to travel from the outside of the disc to the centre, re-focus to the second layer and start again.

Also even if the disc looks OK, no scratches etc doesn't mean the data on the disc itself is, you get poorly mastered DVDs that your player would struggle with.

Have you tried the DVD on another DVD player to see if the same thing happens?

Is it a copied disk. If it is then it will be fault in the disk. even if it works on another machine.

If all your other disks work, youll just have to chuck it away.

try cleaning the dvd with a cd cleaner or some alcohol, or even lemon juice. if that doesnt work, try it on the computer or another player.
